The cityscape of New York is always evolving. But some buildings will stand forever, good or bad. This is a thread to discuss those that you think should come down.

Okay, I'll bite.

Pretty much all of the recent Hudson Yards development. The majority of them shout bland, vain, brutalness.

Maybe save "the Spiral" because it seems to have been designed with some humor.

The rest seem like displays of soul-crushing class-obsessed arrogance and prideful lack of humane sensitivity.

They are like the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles in a neo-fascist glitz.

These HIDEOUS waterfront behemoths must be replaced with something much more befitting of a NYC waterfront tower. Their architectural standards are just offensive to look at in a such an important and prominent location. With enough of a multi billion-dollar of expendable income strata (Musk, Bezos, Buffet, etc), after fulfilling my obligations to charitable causes, I would buy one (or all three of these pieces of crap) and build something that does not insult the downtown panorama as much as they do.

As outdated as that building is, it does incorporate one of the chillest spots downtown, the elevated public plaza with an uninterrupted view of Brooklyn, the FDR and the East River that can be seen in that picture where the trees are.

Totally disagree with Rooted Aborial. Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. I see the Hudson Yards complex as a modern, futuristic welcome design to the skyline of New York City. All of them are nice especially the dancing towers.

While New York's cityscape constantly evolves, there are certainly buildings that may have outlived their architectural or functional relevance. It's essential to strike a balance between preserving the city's historical charm and making way for more modern, efficient structures.

I hate the "Madison Green" tower with the heat of a thousand suns. It could not be more insensitive and less complementary to the view frame of the Flatiron Building. It's a thoughtless pile of a building. I challenge anyone to find a more unfortunate high profile juxtaposition in the city. Maybe one of these days it will undergo a major exterior reclad, though I don't know how one gets around to imposing and graceless massing of the thing.

I would have a suggestion for a small building near Central Park.

Build a shortened version of the original Haiyantang, instead of the zodiac sculptures just take the latest NY skyscrapers as a model. Because there was a fountain in front of the building, there are only pictures of the ruin or the digitized because the Haiyantang and the complete palace was destroyed in 1860.

When MS finds a new HQ, I’d like to see this vanilla POS redeveloped.

Although it was renovated not long ago, I wonder if SLG will raze the eastern portion of 280 Park. It’s not very tall and shouldn’t be too hard to raze.

Obviously, the Colgate eyesore should come down too.

It seems that there was a modification to the NB permit in May of 2024. I’d like to see something finally rise here and replace the garbage that’s presently on this site.
