Nice work!

I'm totally okay with the "table top" skyline we're about to get.

I got looking into the new towers going up in Montreal recently and I didn't realize the extent of their building boom. Their top 10 tallest buildings list is going to be completely re-made in the next 3 years with the completion of:

-Maestria Tour A (606ft)
-Maestria Tour B (651ft)
-Victoria Sur Le Parc (660ft)
-National Bank HQ (660ft)
-1 Square Phillips (720ft)

All 5 of these towers will be in the top 10 tallest in the city. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Don't forget about 900 Saint-Jacques at 200m (656ft) as well.

Figured I'd start the new year off with a new skyline - Ottawa. It is nowhere near complete yet but I've got a fair amount of towers to start. Gatineau is also included here as well.

Ottawa, ON:

Total # of new towers in skyline: 46

I can't find 900 St Jacques anywhere? Is it even approved?

NVM I found a forum in Montreal which discusses it. Seems the official renderings aren't even out yet, nor are the final specs. Looks to be another 200 tower though.

Anyone else find the Mirvish-Gehry proposal contrived looking?

The height increase application at One Bloor West and the 11 Bay proposal are getting me a lot more excited than the MG development.

I remember when Montreal had a "big 5"...5 towers between 205 and 187m (even though le 1000 is actually 215m but that's another story).

In about 3 or 4 years the IBM tower (second tallest, 199m) will barely break into the top 10.

This is the biggest and tallest skyscraper boom in the city's history.

And it's not even spurred on by a massive late 60's expo or an Olympic Games, this one is fully organic.

I haven't paid much attention to Montreal's new towers tbh. I regret that because there is some serious action going on there! The top 10 height list is completely being re-made. I always thought Montreal should have more condo demand. It's a beautiful city, one of a kind, amazing feel to it. I'd personally live there. My French is not the best, but I have a solid enough foundation to learn.

Locals don't want to live downtown. Being surrounded by big towers in a concrete jungle is not the kind of life people want. Montréalers like to live in communities, they are really attached to their neighborhood and moving downtown will not be seen as an upgrade. Public transport is really good in the areas surrounding the downtown core so it's not a necessity to live in Ville-Marie.

Well obviously that mindset is changing because there are more condo towers going up in downtown Montreal than ever before. When you start getting multiple 50+ storey residential towers going up in a city... you know the mindset is indeed changing. It was similar in Toronto back in the 80's and 90's. Nobody wanted to live downtown. Now its extremely popular and the majority of people under 35 I talk to have goals to live downtown.

In the LGBTQ community I know dozens of people who live downtown Montreal and love it. They say its close to all the clubs/bars, restaurants, close to the river, St Catherine St village, Mont Royal, etc. I can see the French locals who have a family not wanting to be down there but for young single people, that's where I'd be.
