McKinley Street

Just noticed that McKinley between Central and 1st Ave is back open. This should make a lot of drivers happy

Although they completely messed up the address, new pre-app for 4 story mixed-use for the adjacent lot to the South of the South of Knipe House:

Looks like they stopped it again. I saw several cars pass through on the webcam earlier. Maybe they left the gates open accidentally?

Is this an alternative to the weird I want to say ~19? story Knipe/R02 office proposal?

The 19 story portion of it would be across the street. Hopefully, the tower is still in play.

They did quick work of those condos/apartments along First Avenue behind The Stewart.

I like this fence.

And at Block 23, more glass, including this strange part that sticks out.

Glad to see those historic buildings get renovated. Thanks for the great pics, Haux.

Does anyone know whatever is happening with the historic apartment bldgs on Roosevelt between 2nd Ave & 5th Ave that are supposed to be renovated? One I'm specifically thinking about is the nice one on the southeast corner of 3rd Ave/Roosevelt. That one was supposed to be converted back to apts from offices, it doesn't seem like anything has happened.

The ones on 3rd Ave/Roosevelt are currently undergoing renovations. Permit was issued months ago and slowly chugging alone

Nothing to really report. I took a stroll around last night. No movement yet on Kinect, AZ Center, The Fillmore or RO2 (although it looks like maybe some dirt was leveled?). The McKinley Court development is fully fenced up. There is a couple of backhoes on the lot behind O'Neil where the proposed Fore residential development is supposed to go, but not sure if it means anything is about to move. The Pemberton House across the street from en Hance is all lit up and looks to be fully renovated. Not sure what is going there or not, but it looks pretty good at night.

That's about all I've got.

Edit: Forgot to mention the Circa Central Avenue appears to be fully completed and looks pretty good. Not sure what date is set for residents to start moving in.

The stadium Extortion drama continues

Quote:
The Phoenix City Council will delay a vote on funding renovations at Talking Stick Resort Arena until January.

Council was expected to vote Wednesday on a measure that would fund the renovations of the city-owned downtown arena, costing the city $150 million.

After pushback from the public and other members of Council, Phoenix interim Mayor Thelda Williams and Councilmembers Debra Stark and Laura Pastor sent a letter to City Manager Ed Zuercher requesting the arena items on Wednesday’s agenda be moved to Jan. 23. They also asked to schedule two public meetings prior to the vote so city residents can learn about the proposed deal and offer input.

The deal would require the Suns to pitch in $80 million to update the arena, which is one of the oldest in the National Basketball Association.

Suns owner Robert Sarver has wanted to upgrade or get a new arena for years and finally was able to cut a deal with city officials earlier this month.
Im hearing through the Rumor mill that the suns are *gasp* threading to move their failing team to a smaller market in Vegas sure thing.

All of this gnashing of teeth delaying the inevitable.

I found project plans for the Ro2 development. The plan includes two high rise office buildings. It also looks like the creative tower is still in play. They just moved to between 1st and 2nd street. The Ro2 certainly looks like an awesome development though.

The city council is losing their minds and starting to cave into the smaller groups that are ranting about public financing (i.e. the anti-rail crowd). The council needs to get a grip on the bigger picture and start making decisions to better Phoenix and not cave in to the minority voices. They've already halted the PV extension and this vote delay will only push the Sun's more. If the council does vote to not renovate the arena, I'll bet hard cash the Sun's do indeed leave.

So wait...they are taking up a 3rd block and building what looks like the Creative House Tower adjacent to the garage that belongs to Maricopa Environmental Services and are now including the Maricopa Services building in this project as well??
