RIP. Liberty Place is a fantastic, timeless design.

RIP Helmet Jahn, some who practice a faith can hope he is in a better place; however one thing is a sure fact; his works follow him; he has made his make in this world and we all can see he has contributed in making this city a far better place that it was before 1985.

God rest him. One Liberty wasn't exactly the New Jerusalem descending from the heavens, but in the mid-eighties, it sure felt that way.

It was a similar design to NYC's Chrysler Bldg, and designed by different architects.

Last edited by iheartphilly; May 10, 2021 at 4:07 PM. Reason: inadvertently and incorrectly wrote ESB

I bet you guys didn't know that the Bell Atlantic Tower was slightly inspired by the Empire State Building. I came across that while looking for old newspaper clippings

I believe you're correct with that too, with the way the tower steps up to the top. But the north and south elevation is very similar to the ESB, along with the middle of the building pushed in like the ESB

Bell Atlantic; it strikes me more Rockefeller Center that the Empire State Building but I can see the resemblance. If the Empire State Building didn't have a lantern maybe there is a slight resemblance from the north and south but not from the east or west.

One thing about Philadelphia skyscrapers is that they have a classy appeal that most young cities are lacking.
