Fantastic Montreal and Toronto sets. I know they're controversial, but I really love these Instagram compilations. I would love to see some for every Canadian city.
Going back to the discussion about the Oratoire being an underrated landmark nationally, I wonder how many Canadians would be able to identify this city based on this photo only.
Probably a fair amount if only by deduction. The topography, the age of the houses, the church itself, rules out most candidates. Anyone from BC would know its not Vancouver or Victoria, anyone from the Prairies would not recognize Calgary or Edmonton or Winnipeg, anyone from Ontario would hardly think this is Toronto, it leaves very little else to guess right.
Sure, but would anyone from Red Deer, or Calgary or Saskatoon (who's not on SSP) be able to differentiate this from Toronto or Quebec City? By deduction yes, probably.
But I could easily understand if someone from Edmonton, or Prince Rupert, who hasn't travelled out east or isn't familiar with canadian urban typologies could assume on first glance that this is Quebec City, or even somewhere in Toronto. In the same vein as I'm sure few people in Quebec would be able to identofy Edmonton based on the MacDonald Hotel and the downtown skyline.

If it were not in this thread or forum I might think it's a town somewhere along the U.S east Coast.
The dome of the Oratory actually looks a bit like the BC Legislature in Victoria. And the houses aren't really of any identifiable regional vernacular. I'm sure just about any SSPer would still be able to identify it, but it could convincingly pass for anywhere from Victoria to Halifax from that angle.

Anywhere ? Even with the pronounced hill ? Anywhere like maybe Edmonton, or Calgary ? Do you have that kind of houses in such concentration in Vancouver? Hamilton ? Halifax ? I don’t agree with you. Only those who have limited mental image of Canadian cities could be fool, in my opinion. Victoria’s legislature is not on top of a hill.
Damn, those Montreal sets are just so good. Nice ones for Toronto, too!

Those houses definitely aren’t typical of anywhere in Western Canada.
Love the drone shot of the Van Horne warehouse, as well as the photo looking towards Mount Royal from Crémazie. Such a rare view but it shows Montreal's urban form very well.

I find the process of posting IG photos on a message board unbearably taxing and complicated. Otherwise I'd certainly join Martinmtl in his quest to curate the very best of IG Montreal. And I'm sure more forumers would as well.
