I thought Columbia had bought the Sisters of Notre Dame campus out by the RBG.

They have converted those buildings into study rooms. I'm almost certain someone took this to the LPAT.

I'm not sure what stage this project is at but if I were Columbia I'd be clutching my purse strings very, very tightly. After all, it's pretty safe to say the international student market is going to dry up for a time...

After looking around, it seems you are right: https://www.omb.gov.on.ca/ecs/CaseDe...spx?n=PL180816

It appears the owners of the apartment blocks that stand between this site and the school appealed it. There is a single day hearing scheduled for July 2nd, 2020.

This was appealed under the "new-old" non OMB system from the Liberals, so is going to be a different kind of hearing and process than normal.

I keep forgetting to say this....

They are preparing for the demolition of the existing buildings for the old Audi car dealership. The area is fenced off and yesterday I saw equipment digging up something.

That was Sterling Honda (back in the 1990s anyway) and then changed to an Acura dealer at some point later.

Good to see something moving ahead, if only the demo. The college must have a lot of uncertainty about its ability to attract students from abroad in the short term.

The smaller building was Dairy Queen before that. The city is becoming littered with old DQ locations.

This area is all fenced off and demolition is starting - should be cool to see the end result - definitely a better use of the land the new project

This isn't approved yet - so demolition here is an anticipative move.

Another LPAT hearing is scheduled for August 27 now, so next week. Lets see what happens.

Yeah they really should allow this one - there isn't much around to be a deterrent..

Actually I think it is about the fill they want to add on the South side of the property. The Conservation authority signed off on it but one of their board members or employees filed an objection.

yeah thats the big issue. Theres legitimate reason for concern about the impact of this build not on the streetscape and neighbourhood but on the Chedoke creek which is an environmentally significant feature of the land Hamilton is on

Appeal dismissed. This is now officially considered approved. Hopefully construction can begin soon.

http://www.omb.gov.on.ca/e-decisions...ct-21-2020.pdf

Interestingly, this seems to no longer be associated with CIC:

"The City adopted the OPA and passed the ZBA on September 12, 2018. At that time, and at the time of Plaza’s application for these instruments, the proposal was for a lodging house use to be operated as a 1,024-bed, 514-unit student residence for the College. The College has since withdrawn from the project and Plaza intends to proceed with the project as a mixed-use residential development with an operator to be identified. Plaza requires no changes to the approved OPA and ZBA to proceed with its plan."

I saw fencing work being done at the bottom of this property today from the 403. There is also a very large excavator on site but I'm not sure how long that has been there.

They've started demolishing one of the buildings today.

There are just piles of rubble and scrap steel on the property now, getting cleared away.
