The Butterfly | 178.6m | 57Fl | U/C

Stumbled upon another gem this morning, this is sure to cause some controversy.

It will sit adjacent to this proposed gem as well:

All I can say is that the future of our skyline is looking better than ever!

Que c'est formidable !!!

A real powerhouse design! No half-way measures, and no excesses, either. Hope it gets the green light!!

I like it. Hard to tell what material the white part is. It might be nicer if the curved forms were random, instead of simply repeated up the tower.

Thanks for finding some higher resolution renderings.

I am still torn about this one. It is for sure different from all the other proposals, but I am getting some 80s Beach Tower vibes from it.

I assume the small dark building is the below market price rental?

I love this project.

I love that the tubular elements are relate-able to some of the concrete 60s,70s West End towers, yet have that 80s clean, symmetrical sleekness. Then you have the organ pipe cutout elements that are very modern that we've seen in a few recent proposals. I also love how it meets the street. I'm a big fan of the podium-point tower mantra, but it's great to go back to a modernist single element like this, with the cutout twists and the glassed in atrium it stands into. The trees I think may be overdone a bit but I'm not going to complain.

Reminds me a bit of this though, in a good way!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Îs that a stylized version of Marina City in Chicago, or a new project? Anyway,
this project in Vancouver instantly made me flash on Marina city, built decades back, way ahead of its time in design.

Lol, it's the album cover for Chicago's 13th record/cd , referencing Marina City.

I think controversy will be muted by the church being a partner in this and it will include "community amenities in the lower floors; a 70-foot-tall, 8-storey rental building with 75 'below market rate' housing units, for older adults and seniors, owned and managed by the church".

Plus "the tower resembles four abstract organ pipes that slightly overlap on the inner edges. A 'gap' in the core of the building’s envelope reduces the building’s heating and cooling energy usage by 15 per cent and provides open communal spaces for residents in an effort to increase social interaction and reduce isolation." So some LEED like elements to it.

Anyone who objects to it is going to have to come up with something other than 'I don't like the look of it'.

The story said 550 feet (168 meters). It looks taller by the renderings.

Just curious how the church will accommodate parking for their Sunday masses going forward? I recall the lot having been full always on weekend.

It's a Baptist eclesial community, they don't have Mass (and many would probably be offended at calling their Sunday service Mass).

They'll probably have some reserved spaces in the underground parking, probably under the rental building.

I have no idea what a Baptist eclesial community is or entails, but I am sorry if my poor choose of words has offended someone.

Yeah, I was also thinking they will likely have some public parking under the tower. I recall the Vancouver Sun article mentioning over 300 parking spaces (of course there are also over 300 condos). Surely they have considered it all.

Eclesial community is the Catholic term for religious communities/groups that don't have access to the Sacraments (due to various reasons such as Apostolic Succession and/or differing theology).

A Baptist would probably take offence at their Lord Supper service being called Mass due to the association of the word Mass with the Catholic Sacrament, which most Baptists consider to be a "re-sacrificing" of Christ and therefore sacrilegious.

There are 295 units in the main tower and 75 units in the rental building. Being that the rental building is for seniors, I doubt they will have assigned parking, so the parking under that building will probably be for church use.

This is obviously just a guess, though...
