There are many lessons to be learned from Edmonton that has embraced being a "winter city". If you can't change it, then embrace it. They have a lot of initiatives to encourage residents to explore and keep active in the winter. They hosted an international "winter city" conference a few years back. I believe Saskatoon had some reps at the conference, but honestly...have not seen a lot of best practices come to our city as a result.

It could be SO much better....

Yes embrace it! A lot of tax dollars that could go towards embracing it probably go to vacations in mexico or the US, or even Bc...maybe in 100 years we’ll embrace it.

Bumping the cam:

I overlaid the mock-up of the towers with a picture from today! How close it is to the mock-up is stunning! The Condo being taller in reality and the North Tower being skinnier in the drawing definitely give the perception that this tower is a lot shorter than it could be, but the mock-ups definitely don’t show much of a difference to what we will see.

The winter garden is a sort of indoor park (trees, benches, etc) going into the pinnacle of the tower.

Here’s an article semi-explaining the winter garden. It’s too bad that they didn’t do mock-ups of it. I really hope it’s open to the public - would be awesome for sask kids if there was an ag-educational aspect to the winter garden. I think having Sask kids go up that high to see our city and also see such a cool garden in the city would be a very eye opening educational piece to understand why people live and thrive in our province. If it’s just going to be a place for employees to have lunch, I fear it will be very much under-utilized.

Does anyone have any updates and/or photos of Nasser Plaza? If I recall correctly, it was supposed to have been completed this summer.

The section of the plaza adjacent to the East Tower is currently usable and portion next to the condo/hotel will be ready this fall. Work is still ongoing in the main part of the plaza and will not be completed until next summer.

Thanks Crisis! Is this a delay in the completion timeline? I'm curious to see how faithful the final version will be to the original specs.

The work has been delayed for a variety of reasons that arise when dealing with multiple entities sharing a common plaza. However, I think most people will be pretty pleased with the end result.

So what is the final height?

I’m hoping BHP or Federated Co-op (or both in partnership since BHP would find a retail partner useful in North America fertilizer) have the will to build a new tower very soon! North Prairie definitely wouldn’t be able to handle a project the size that BHP needs so they will most likely relocate from where they are.

I also think it’s noteable to watch the uranium industry - both Cameco, Orano, and Nexgen since their prices have stabilized and small modular reactors may in fact become a big deal in transitioning to renewables.
