I had a try of that when i worked for a fibreglass co. when i wanted some tear drop speaker moulds for the car

I decided it would be quicker for me to make the pattern using a series of cardboard cutouts

AutoCAD rules

Ah yes, I remember when Autocad was the worst drawing program in the world to me. That was back in 1990 when I took a new job as an illustrator at a manufacturing company. I liked Photoshop and Illustrator, both programs that grew out of a Mac environment. I couldn't believe how unfriendly AutoCAD was but I had to learn enough to use it to open drawings and print things. Then 10 years later I had to learn it for lease plans at a mall company. It took some work but it opened new doors for sure. Now I like Autocad because it is very solid, honest, efficient and productive. I draw site plans in it then export to Sketchup and do amazing models, sometimes of projects with hundreds of houses. You can see samples at:

www.plainview3d.com

Autocad is something you can earn a living on. I'm still a long ways off from some of the gurus I've met over the years. People can treat it like a religion sometimes, very sacred to them it seems.

I'd recommend going to school to learn it.

Peter

Wow. I was checking out your website Plainview. Good stuff.

I took an AutoCAD class last year and I got to the point where I felt comfortable drawing with it. Nothing to exact precision, but just for visual aesthetics.

How do you get that watercolor effect? You must import your CAD files into Photoshop, right???

AutoCAD is already obsolete. Try using Autodesk Revit if you really want to get things done:

I like CAD, was getting pretty good at it with keyboard commands. Don't use it anymore though since switching jobs.
