The Best Buy sign looks like a half fast job they should have painted over the old Future Shop sign before installing the new Best Buy one.

As for the Source it's completely empty, and if I'm not mistaken there Stock went to other stores. I'm not sure that they are going to be reopening. Since Circuit City went bust I've been waiting for the day The Source would follow the same faith.

I'm wondering if they were surprised with the Future Shop to Best Buy conversion.

You'd think that painting the front would've been in the plans before the sign went up, but it almost looks like they weren't expecting to find the old (original?) FS sign under the red signage, so they finished the Best Buy signs and will get the painters out Soon(tm).

They will not be reopening in Brunswick Square - The new owners of the mall have hired a retail/commercial specialist to attract new tenants and try to breathe some new life into the complex. I understand they want all retail off the 3rd floor and are actively trying to move everyone to the main level - that 3rd level was always a no mans land anyways.

I believe it has been painted - I was by there yesterday and thought it looked pretty good actually. The new NBLC and Sobeys up the hill are coming along nicely and I wonder what will go into the old Sobeys? Thinking Good Life at Parkway would be a good guess - they have been pouring alot of money into renos at the uptown location but have done nothing at Parkway - thinking this is an indicator that they will be moving so why bother updating the current location??

That would make sense they have quite a few empty units, and according to there own site's rental listings the majority of empty units are on the 3rd floor. and they might want to think about extending there hours a bit (if the hours on the site are still the same) closing at 6 would make a lot of business owner look at other locations before they do Brunswick Square. This is a sad analogy but if they don't change quite a bit I fear they will end up like this.

I agree that they do need to rethink the place. I don't really disagree with the 6pm closing as it's not really the environment that attracts an evening shopper as the majority of shoppers tend to be the business crowd. I would like to see them stay open later on Thursday and Friday as these days tend to be very busy with the uptown restaurants and with Starbucks in the mall, there may be an opportunity to attract the after dinner crowd. Market square has also just redone their seating area....very nice....now if they could attract a couple of higher end food kiosks to replace the A and W and the other one that closed this could turn that mall around too. I would love to see a place like Pret a Manger....we go there all the time in New York City and it serves premade, sandwiches, wraps and soups....fantastic quality and a healthy choice.

6PM closing is still much too early for Brunswick Square (and much of the Uptown) and I think it should be extended until 8 or 9. For Brunswick Square, why not give tenants the opportunity to stay later? I understand that Uptown empties out as employees leave for their homes after work but it's a chicken and egg sort of situation...if you keep stores open later will you keep (or perhaps attract) more people Uptown, or do people leave simply because everything closes?

I've been to the Aquatic Centre on plenty of evenings, as well as Sea Dogs games, to know that Uptown businesses could do well on these evenings if they stayed open. It was particularly disappointing one time when I went to the Santa Clause parade Uptown and ventured in to Brunswick Square thinking the food court would be open only to find everything closed with a good couple hundred people outside.

I actually know people who live, and work in/near the Uptown area, and I'm sure if Brunswick square where open later they would not be the only ones who would shop there.

I live Uptown and would definitely use a few of the shops in Brunswick Square after 6, especially somewhere like Lawton's.

When we stay in uptown SJ every November for the better part of a week we are always disappointed that the mall and the many stores close so early but that is a common issue.

Signage for Mary Brown's on Fairville Blvd next to Starbucks is now up - interior seems finished as well. Job fair next Wednesday being advertised on Kijiji.

Nice to see some more fast food options coming west. Now if only we could get some "sit down" chains.

Seeing the Mary Brown's sign go up took me totally by surprise, mostly because I hadn't yet read on this forum that it was coming.

The flow of news here spoils me; I've gotten used to knowing about new business openings in advance.

Also, it appears one of the vacant buildings towards the end of Rothesay Ave now has a tenant: according to the sign out front, ServiceMaster will be moving into the former Fundy Honda building.

Service Master bought that building several months ago. Good move for them.

According to OUIR@Random on the Moncton Retail Thread, The Canadian Grocer website says that SJ can expect a new Sobey's Extra store sometime next year.

Hmmm. The Sobeys in McAllister Place is moving to a stand alone location at East Pointe - they are building it now - wonder if thats it?

Here's the article - http://www.canadiangrocer.com/uncate...c-canada-60132

They hinted that the East Point Sobeys construction would be a "new-concept store" back in July, but never really went into the details.

There's a PDF copy of a TJ article from July posted on the East Point website with some details.

There is still expansion room on Market Square next to the corner of St. Patrick Street and Union, the recent expansion for Genesys did not take up the whole area and the underlying structure was designed to accommodate growth toward the street in that part of the building. Not saying it'll go there, just pointing out a potential area.

Reading that article with its mention of the former Target location reminded me of something -

Yesterday morning I was on that end of McAllister Place and I saw a group of people with clipboards walking around the former Target, pointing things out, making notes, and seemingly having a discussion.

Maybe some prospective developers or representatives from another chain considering the location?
