There were some core sampling permits filed today for Phase II of the Capitol Complex expansion. But I don't recall what Phase II consisted of.

Phase II of the Capitol Complex will add two new office buildings totaling 525,000 square feet of office space, five levels of underground parking below Congress Avenue, and above-ground parking as well as the final block of the Texas Mall.

The drilling permits were for Lavaca, so this makes since. Not as large as Phase I.

It looks like they didn't add the curves to the front of 1801 Congress that made this project interesting. I would think they would have been added by now and before the area in front of the building was this far along. Plus they added a railing along the space that is not in the rendering. Apparently they decided an amenities space was more important than the curves.

It's still a nice looking building, especially for the state. But much less unique now.

Good article from Towers about the potential the Texas Mall's garage has for consolidating existing parking in the Capitol Complex and what the long-term redevelopment plans have in store.

I just cringe at those giant west facing windows at the top and how hot those offices are going to get.

Also the mall area down below will be cooking in the afternoon with the light reflecting off those windows.

That mall needs some extensive water features.

Water features are pretty obsolete these days. The only functioning public fountains I know of these days is on UT campus (Littlefield + the one by the LBJ library)

I would add that water features are borderline inappropriate for a city in Central Texas that is always a few dry months away from drought. Yes, I know most of them recycle water, but a bunch evaporates. Would be an especially bad message to send from the state, which is entrusted with the responsibility of making sure Texans have water for years to come.

Yes. During the 2011 drought they became targets due to water waste.
