The videos look awesome, but the whole "remember to breathe" slogan is so cheesy I cringe every time it comes on my TV.

Well that is awesome! I recall all the negativity with the best place on earth slogan! The thing is you could spend a thousand lifetimes embracing the beauty of super natural British Columbia. I grew up on the ocean on Vancouver island. You cannot create a better treasure of life to grow up and explore as a child. As I got older I was able to explore mountain climbing at its best with the beautiful peaks of British Columbia. The higher you get the higher you get!I certainly feel privileged to live and grow in B.C. I have travelled extensively and not found a more beautiful place! I understand perception is everything! People will glow on how beautiful the snow and slush in winter is and how horrible rain in B.C. can be! Give me rain and the beautiful lush forests it provides anyday of the week. Canadians can be very myopic so I thought it important to be very honest instead!

I love the B.C. one. It has some of the same elements of ours that Target Marketing started, but it's still different enough. The style and purpose of the voice-over is completely different, and the vast majority of the scenes (excluding some close-ups) could not be confused with here.

I love how they mention aboriginals too.

BTW, my Brazilian friend who moved to Saskatchewan has now moved on to B.C. He was amazed at how differently aboriginal issues are held there. He even posted on FB saying he assumed western Canada was entirely racist and backwards regarding indigenous rights, until experiencing B.C. He wishes the federal government would mirror the B.C. government's policies more.

If it's been posted here already I apologise but this Pan Am Games commercial was pretty badass...

USA Today with its Top 5 reasons to visit Newfoundland

Quote:
Hop onto a short three-hour flight from Newark and you'll quickly find yourself in Canada's "The Rock" – Newfoundland. An island off the coast of Nova Scotia and on the eastern edge of North America, Newfoundland sits between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Newfoundland's capital city of St. John's shares its latitude with Paris and Seattle, but with a much smaller population than either of these cities: just 181,000. The entire province, just slightly smaller than the state of California, is home to just 510,000 people, about one-seventh the population of Los Angeles.

Here, five reasons to visit our neighbor to the north.
1. It's natural and wild.
2. It's historic with a 9,000-year history.
3. It's charming.
4. It's quirky - with its own time zone, etc.
5. It's fun - with the best partying in Canada.

^^^ Love the guy with the surfboard walking through the rainforest. So BC! Also the downtown Vancouver sunset shot with BC Place lit up, and the rockclimber on the northshore with the towers emerging in the distance. Epic!

I wonder how BC does aboriginal issues better than the rest of the West?

Mean while in Saskatchewan, anecdotally, aboriginal support is entirely racist and backwards apparently..

Yeah, I'm sure it's a mixed bag. I've never lived in SK but I did in MB and there were lots of good stories there along with the bad.

I do think, generally, that we have a poor understanding of how badly aboriginal people are treated and regarded in Canada. I think it strikes outsiders as shocking and racist far more quickly than it does us.

I actually toned down what the Brazilian had to say. This was the worst of the posts related to that discussion:

http://i59.tinypic.com/fu2bo9.png

I imagine he'll discover there are problems in B.C. too soon enough. But it does appear there's at least a difference on the surface. He definitely noticed people don't pass racist comments there in polite company, they're much more PC behind closed doors, that was another post.

Something to work on. Excluding the Maritimes, we all have some pretty neglected areas in our north.
