Per the placard on the hood of the car I believe the race (or the car) was sponsored by the Los Angeles Times. Also note the Pacific railcar in the background.

As for the mirror image. It looks correct to me except the tramson is noticeably open in the mirror and it appears closed in . .um. .not the mirror but that's because of the camera angle.

Indianapolis Speedway, Indiana in 1917 according to this one.

As for Los Angeles, the Golden Submarine trialed and raced at Ascot Park on Slauson Avenue in 1917 and 1918.


Now for what it's worth - some fence forensics.


Here's a blown-up detail from a 1916 picture of Ascot Park. It shows distinctive chainlink fencing.

Maybe entirely coincidental - the "Jan. 13" in the picture.





The Golden Submarine did race at Ascot Park on Jan. 13 1918.

Holy Toledo! I think you've solved it, Noir Noir.... An absolute amazing job of sleuthing especially using the rather unique design of the wire fence! (and the Jan. 13th date)

I thought I'd take a shot in the dark and try to find an old advertisement with that type of wire fence in the L.A. directories or elsewhere. (the race track no doubt bought the fence locally)

I didn't find an ad or anything of that sort but I happened upon this old metal sign for L.A. Fencing Co.

Howdy!

Recently, I had the pleasure of exploring the J.H. Blair House, located at 1760 Courtney Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046. I'm not sure if this home has been discussed before.







Does anyone know what the heck this last image is? It was located near the front gate/entrance; at the bottom of the driveway.
