Exactly. Unless the Richardsons & Peak of the Market decide to personally stock up Winnipeg Harvest with billions of tonnes of food, or the governments actually get off their ass & do something for the first time in their lives... exactly what will those people be left with? Unless its acceptable for them to just go *take* what they need. In which case, as i said, WPS can barely handle a few murders & whatever else they have for cases (example: late 2019) - so when tens of thousands of people start rioting in Winnipeg for food, rent money and venting at the system - either WPS will go apeshit ballistic (the last thing Winnipeg needs is cops emptying clips and mags at the poor & addicted en masse), or there will be a need of armed forces. Which even with more firepower, reservists and all - will NOT be enough to quell the situation. By any means.
If Pallister can't & won't do shit about it (historical fact), then the federal government needs to actually DO SOMETHING. But then again, Trudeau keeps fucking around, throwing everyone outside the GTA to the wolves... so what options are left?! Even Chipmans attitude of not paying people, upmarking MTS Centre proces to extortion rates & kicking families out of his precious TNS public spaces... THAT is the attitude that Winnipegs vulnerable are up against. No support. And hardly a sympathetic populace.
Calgary is in the same boat from what I've seen out here, but at least theres been practice runs since the 1980s... plus theres at least a lid kept on it, across the social services, governments and families out here that are still somewhat nuclear. As you said Hectate in another thread: Manitoba ripped the lid off ages ago, cut funds, let elitists in charge to annihilate the economy & Manitoba investment, and left WPS & others to basically mop up the mess.
Don't forget, I was born and raised in Winnipeg, its not as if I don't know shit about my own home city, or heard stories from family & friends going back decades... I have friends back home in the same position I'm in, living on the edge, no supports, no nothing. What are they gonna do if this gets any worse? Knowing Winnipeg landlords, lack of jobs (especially amongst a pandemic) and Pallisters/Trudeaus poor-shaming bullshit, so whats going to happen? Theres practically no MB housing, private landlords in Winnipeg demand jobs too (EI/Welfare does NOT cut it for those people, i know that for a FACT), and Winnipeg employers tend not to hire poor, Aboriginals or anyone knowingly on the margins of society... I've known people who had their asses thrown out of interviews, for mentioning they were autistic. Nevermind race, sexual orientation, wealth, etc.
Exactly what are my friends & other people, if not myself out West, are going to do if this gets any worse? Especially with fuckall from the government & the rich basically letting the rest bludgeon eachother to death over bread, rent money and other things? This isn't the Soviet Union lol, if this country collapses, its going to collapse HARD. And that's the scariest part about it.
I'm not in the fucking "land of make believe", and this ISN'T Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Things are about to get disturbing, and Winnipeg is at the fore front of shit hitting the fan, even more so than other parts of Canada. Anyone who isn't concerned about the 700,000+ people inside the Perimeter with the "perfect storm" needs to get their head examined. Calgary might be bad, but it will be a cakewalk out here, compared to whats in store for Winnipeg and other critical-mass Canadian towns & cities, if no one gets their asses in gear.
