SAS Announces First Airbus A350 Routes

"The initial route will be to Chicago, with further services added as more planes are delivered."

"The first route for the A350 is scheduled to operate between Copenhagen and Chicago. SAS say this is one of their most popular routes. Following deployment to Chicago, the A350 will be used on six other routes over the course of the year."

Qantas Announces Flights to Chicago and San Francisco

"At a media conference today (17th June) in Brisbane, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has announced flights from Brisbane to Chicago and Brisbane to San Francisco, which will commence in April 2020."

great news on the offical Qantas announcement!

in other potential new carrier at ORD news, EgyptAir just began service from cairo to dulles, and is said to be eyeing ORD for its next NA expansion.

Good to hear though a bit surprising considering I thought Egypt's tourist economy was still sluggish.

If we are talking about our first North African service I'd rather have Air Maroc (Marroc) instead of Egypt Air and also speculate that it could do better serving as a gateway to Northern/Western Africa and Iberia.

I was driving down the Tri State into work today and saw the Ethiopian Airlines plane parked at T5. . . that pleased me. . . then I began thinking to myself, "I wonder what the next African destination will be. . . Egypt? Morocco? Kenya? Lagos, Nigeria?"

Anyhow I'm looking forward to hearing about new African destinations. . .

Ethiopian has already upgraded to the larger 777 aircraft daily from the 787 8 and will add more flights later this year to ORD.

Now we need Singapore to come back with a nonstop to ORD.

Yes! I'm agree with you. If they have nonstop flight from ORD-SIN in near the future. I think it will be on A350-900ULR aircraft.

Hainan Airlines New Route Starts June 28

"Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines plans to add a new non-stop service to the US from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, the host destination of World Routes in 2016. The route to Chicago O'Hare will launch on 28 June 2019, operating two times per week using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner."

I must have completed missed the news of this additional route out of Chicago. Chengdu is becoming a popular market in China. Hainan Airlines already serves Chicago with flights to Beijing.

NBC story

O’Hare Airport is about to get a multi-million dollar upgrade, officials announced Monday.

The $65 million investment was unveiled by the U.S. Transportation Secretary, who said the funds would in part be used to build new runways at the world’s fourth-busiest airport.

“These construction of runways will help Chicago maintain its status as one of the busiest in the world,” FAA Assistant Administrator Bailey Edwards said.

The FAA said construction is expected to start soon.

it's still ongoing. all runway work is supposed to be done by 2021.

9C/27C is currently U/C, and the lengthening of 9R/27L will commence once 9C/27C is open.

this will leave ORD with SIX parallel runways, the first airport in the world with such an arrangement. and 4 of them will be ~11,000+ feet in length!

They have finished tearing down the old TWA and United hangars for 9C-27C, so it should really start taking shape over the next year. The deice pad configuration is still a big problem as they only have one for east bound departures but none for westbound unless you taxi to the other side of the airport from the pad. Defeats the purpose of the pad. They do not want to remove 22L thank god, so that leaves no place for a eastside pad.

Also I think 28R and 28C should have been reversed as outbound flights are the ones that take the biggest delays blocking up traffic. They use 10L 28R for the departures and 10C 28C for arrivals almost exclusively thus blocking inbound traffic due to rows of aircraft waiting for departures on 10L 28R. Length aside the concept was wrong.

It's clear. I think it's mostly used for departures anyway or 22R a tiny bit for arrivals, only in a very small minority of wind conditions. I think I've departed from 4L maybe once in several years and I used to fly 2-3 times a week.

Started construction last month and will take 2 years to complete.

"Work on two satellite concourses to the west of United's operation in terminal 1 will begin in 2020.
