The transformation has been (and continues to be) breathtaking.

I don't think I'd be foolish to say that San Franciscos 2019 skyline could rank among the top 3 in the world.... The beautiful bay and bay bridge backdrop with the bay lights on and shinning and Salesforce's tower beacon/crown shinning up in the sky. 2019 can't come any sooner !

Transamerica is looking a little lonely over there.

It really always did from this perspective, but it more than holds its own as the icon it will always be.

Transamerica has always been at the outer edge of the Financial District. Chinatown starts on the block immediately west; North Beach starts a couple blocks northwest; the Jackson Square neighborhood is across the street, due north.

That is, they will unless (until?) skyscrapers spead south of I80.

I always thought the SF Planning Department's effort to sculpt the skyline to make it aesthetically pleasing when viewed from Treasure Island to be heavy-handed and bizarre.

Didn't have a chance to take a picture because I was driving, but the site at 600 S. Van Ness (at 16th) is finally being cleared. The empty auto repair shop had been sitting there for quite some time with lumber stacked up randomly across the parking lot. 4 floors of rentals over ground floor retail.

I'm surprised no one here posts about all the exciting new routes SFO is getting. Today, we landed our longest non-stop route yet and the longest non-stop route by an American provider beating out ATL-JOH.

Except it isn't. There are no skyscrapers to the right of Transamerica, when viewing the skyline from TI, because that is the outer edge of the Financial District, and the residential neighborhoods north and east of TA don't want skyscrapers.

I think Pseudolus was referring to the height limits put in place for the Transbay and Rincon areas in order to create an undulating effect with a peak in the center of the skyline (SF tower/50 1st) and end posts of Transamerica and One Rincon that neighboring buildings rise up to.

yeah, there was a very concerted effort by planning, at least w/the Rincon Hill master plan, to ensure the "hills" of skyscrapers were maintained

objectives 3.2 and 3.3:

Yes, this is the sort of thing I had in mind. My recollection though is that there was an updated version for the Transbay Plan, with the three mounds being Rincon, Transbay and the existing FiDi.

I also recall one justification for the height of the Transbay/Salesforce Tower was "wayfinding" to the Transbay Terminal.

the hotel on King St

in Dogpatch, the project at 650 Indiana, as seen from the 18th St bridge to Potrero Hill. looking south

slightly different angle

and as seen from the 20th St bridge, looking back north

looking south from that same location, the project at 800 Indiana

they were pouring a new roadbed on the north side of Potrero 1010 today

and that side is starting to come together
