The 15 is currently being restored/extended by about 3 miles to its original terminus of Richmond and Westmoreland. Trolley service will resume following completion of an overhaul of the PCC IIs and when I-95 construction is finished.

There are talks to restore the 23 (Chestnut Hill to Oregon Ave via Germantown Avenue) and 56 (Erie Avenue). I could see the 56 happening in the semi-near future, but the 23 probably isn’t coming back. The most I could see would be Chestnut Hill to Broad, with a transfer to the BSL.

There are limited talks to construct new trolley routes along the following routes:
1) Delaware Avenue. There was a trolley run by volunteers in the nineties along the Philadelphia Harbor Belt, but when the city took over the Cherry Street Pier they packed up shop and moved to Scranton. DRPC is in charge of this. It’s unknown whether it’ll be SEPTA or PATCO providing the service.

2) Belmont Avenue. In the city’s recent Transit Plan, they highlighted the need for service to City Line from Center City. While they admitted that this may be achievable through better utilization of the Cynwyd Line, I suspect that a trolley running from USciences to SJU now might sound quite appealing.

3. Centennial District/Zoo. In the above transit plan, the city also highlights the need for better access to the Centennial District and the Zoo. While the 15 already serves the Zoo, its routing is circuitous for anyone trying to get there from Southwest Philly, and most of the city for that matter. A line running from 34th northward seems to be what they have planned, however I do not know how serious they are about it.

4. Airport. They’ve talked about extending the 13 to the Airport for decades now. We’ll see.

It’s also important to note that the trolley modernization is still happening, albeit slowly. Recent setbacks have pushed it back even further, but there is still a serious push at SEPTA to update both the trolleys and the busses. Both networks are being completely redesigned both from a graphic design and routing standpoint, along with the subways. This is in addition to new LRVs that SEPTA is getting to replace all six existing lines.

I’ve seen the proposed redesign. It’s quite nice, unless you’re especially attached to the numbers the trolleys and busses currently have. It’s just a shame, because SEPTA’s graphic design and maps used to be pretty good, but feel off somewhere around the turn of the millennium.
Thank you for the breakdown!!

Some notable points, Germantown ave would be great for trolleys if it wasn't such a tight strip. if it was wide as Girard ave it would work great, I have to say buses on that strip are the best option.

I'm confused on why they got rid of the trolleys on Erie Ave it literally has it's own ROW probably the best ROW in the city other then subway lines. What was the reason for suspending service on that route?

I remember in the Transit plan it has proposals to bring it to Delaware Ave, Belmont Ave, and many other parts of the city as you listed.

A lot of these things would be possible if we didn't have a backlog of a Billion $+ of work and upgrades.

It's really a shame transit gets Fucked over in cities just because it loses money when it clearly brings the money in. Look at Fishtown and Broad street would those areas be as big if they didn't have the subway lines? I assume the latter would because it's the main strip but Fishtown probably wouldn't because it's just a regular ol neighborhood without the EL.

Another thing I always thought of why does the FTC end in the neighborhood instead of on Roosevelt BLVD? That would make more sense in my opinion.

Blighted Warehouse at 25th & Oakford in Grays Ferry is Going Residential

Current progress:

The current owners bought the building in 2016, paying a little over $1M, and in 2018, it looked like something might finally happen here as they got a zoning variance to redevelop the property. Said variance calls for the conversion of the basement into eight artist studios, the construction of a fifth-floor addition, and the renovation of floors 1-4 into 54 apartments.

Developer plans to transform Budd Co. site in Philadelphia into campus for life sciences manufacturing

Quote:
The owner of the sprawling former Budd Co. property in Philadelphia plans to transform it into a biomanufacturing hub, seizing upon Philadelphia's burgeoning life sciences sector and demand by companies that need the space.

Backed by Centerbridge Partners, a New York private equity firm, Plymouth Group envisions a multi-phased, multiyear development of the site that would eventually create upwards of 2.4 million square feet of lab and manufacturing space. The property is being rebranded as the Budd Campus in a nod to its original use as a factory for the historic Budd company that made stainless steel rail cars and components for the automotive industry.

New York-based Plymouth Group, which tackles large adaptive reuse projects, bought in 2019 the property’s vacant 1.87 million square feet at an auction for $6.5 million. The company began contemplating which direction to take in redeveloping the site, which is in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia. (This is actually located at 3431 Fox Street in what I would consider East Falls)

Repositioning a property such as Budd involves time and money. A master plan is being worked on for the campus that will involve building manufacturing, lab and office space. Future phases will include adding amenities such as restaurants, retail and even residential components.

The first phase, called Budd Bioworks, will total 450,000 square feet. It will total 300,000 square feet of drug manufacturing space along with 150,000 square feet of lab and office space.

Ryder opening last-mile delivery hub in Philadelphia

Quote:
Ryder System is adding a new facility in Philadelphia to meet growing demand for last-mile delivery, also known as the final step in the supply chain process, when a product moves from a warehouse to the customer.

Philadelphia joins Milwaukee as part of the Miami-based logistics giant's (NYSE: R) new hubs to boost Ryder Last Mile, its delivery service for retailers and shippers of big-and-bulky goods.

Ryder's 75,000-square-foot hub in Milwaukee started operations July 19, while the 108,000-square-foot hub in Philadelphia will be operational by October. A Ryder spokeswoman said the company does not release the addresses of its facilities for customer confidentiality and security reasons.

Great use of this space! There was a time this site could have been the home of another failed Trump casino. Philly dodged a huge bullet there.

Awesome news. I hope this moves fast and becomes successful. Amazing to see this level of economic interest in that area.

May be just overactive pattern recognition, but seeing some nods to the former building on this site.
