I really like the design; I don't think it's intended to be a 30 story building, the developer will 'cave' once the community says it's too too and 'be willing to lower the height' to 18 stories, which is probably what they intended all along.

^It's a little too busy IMO. If they continued the blue glass to the base or made it white or dark blue brick, it would look more coherent.

I could care less about the height. This neighborhood is living on borrow time at this point.

How do you mean? Like the allure has worn off or it's over priced? All indications are West Loop and Fulton Market are holding up very well during this recession / pandemic year.

Not at all. I was referring to neighbors complaining about buildings' heights and the days of Fulton Market being almost exclusively a low-rise district/neighborhood are over.

Fulton is toast already in regards to taller buildings getting put there, however it did seem the west loop had kept taller buildings to the perimeter near the highways...this seems to be pushing a little further west then that, still right only a block away from the taller ones though.

^Are you making your judgement based on an, albeit skillfully-done, 'simcity' skyline shot?

In real life, Trump Tower looks fantastic with its spire, though I do wish it were slightly larger. Then again, I'm not the one writing the spire checks.

I couldn't imagine the tower without its spire. It wouldn't look right.

Interesting fact: the building design began shortly after 9/11, and in a nod to the WTC, Trump Tower's spire stops 1 foot short of the tallest of the twins. I thought that was a nice gesture.

I'm not sure where you got that fact, but it is not quite right.

The height of the two WTC towers: 1,368 ft (North) and 1,363 ft (South).
The height of Trump Tower Chicago: 1,389 ft.

It appears I am indeed slightly incorrect. In late 2009, well-after the building was completed, CTBUH changed it's measurement standards, which resulted in Trump Tower growing by 27', officially.

So after doing some math, Trump Tower's spire was originally built to reach about 1' shorter than the shorter of the WTC twins, at 1,362' in height.

I don't need the model to hold this view. The way Trump Tower vertically terminates is awful irl. I fantasize about a redesign. And I believe the spire was shortened directly or indirectly due to fears of terrorism.

Talking history, wasn't trump supposed to be tallest in the nation until 9/11 then they decreased the height? But another 75' on the spire would have been better.
