That's a really interesting take. Hadn't really considered that there could be one whale that everyone's trying to take down.

Funny to see it all happen within a couple of blocks of each other. Clearly the Western Expansion parcels are the only places left in the CBD to go YUGE.

This makes sense. These large office projects make little sense without commitment from one of these large companies that have been rumored to be leasing space in Austin.

Nothing exciting, but something at least. A permit for drilling for a "private development" on Block 16 was filed today.

I didn't like this one at first, but the design has been growing on me a bit, and I like it more than what they had planned for the 4th & Brazos Tower, which has since been redesigned. If the renderings are true, this one looks to be straight up black, which would really make it stand out.

Also, hey, this is right across the street from the Michelada Tower. The Western Expansion blocks are really setting the standard for our new 700’ plateau…

I didn't like it at first either, but the more I see it and consider it, the more I still don't like it....a lot.

The overhang on the west side still bothers me, and it feels a bit blocky from the southeast but other than that I like it. More than anything, I like the facade. The color and texture. It reminds me of the "good design" they had originally for the Fairmont before they chopped 100 feet off it and made it meh.

It's not God awful. Like Kevin said, the facade is nice. And it's not blue glass! I think it'll work. Hopefully we'll get more 700 footers. Build up a nice plateau like that and the skyline will be mighty impressive, especially with 6XG and the waller creek supertall peaking out

I like the overhang. That and the facade color is the only thing that really sets it apart. It’ll be an eye catcher up close.

Absolutely. Agreed. I like the overhang and the setback it'll probably end up nicer than the rendering.

I need to update a few of the heights and statuses for some of the projects, then do screenshots to upload and then post. But, yeah, I rely on it to help keep track of projects.

Yes, I agree. It feels like a grown up building for Austin. Unassuming, prominent and classic. Actually is turning into one of my favorites.

So, from what I recall, this was the design before all the talk about the CC. Has it been more or less confirmed that the design should stay the same or at least similar to this? Or are they considering starting from scratch?

Like others, I actually am a fan of this rendering. It's not my favorite design by any means, but I think it will make a great addition to Austin's skyline. In the same way that Indeed Tower makes a unique impact from different angles, I think this will too. I also like the darker facade and the fact that I don't believe I've seen a building shape quite like it among other skylines. It's also wild to remember that this building (if it is going to be 723 ft) is taller than the Independent/Austonian, and in a part of DT that could use a taller tower. I'd love to see this move forward.

I'm curious about what type of exterior lighting it might have.

This. East end of downtown needs some pizzaz from the 35 view. I bet they could do something subtle, yet striking with the lighting.

If the glass color is as dark as renderings depict then I’m on board with it too. And I think the person that draw the comparison to the Indeed tower has the right idea. This building should offer some of the same perks as the Indeed tower which is to say a distinct shape in the skyline.

Honestly it so beats that Block 150 design.
