Sudbury’s at 175.3K now?! It was only at 128.6K less than a decade ago.
And I thought North Bay was at 54K this whole time.

Sounds like most of the growth was for the areas outside the main cities for the CAs.

That still leaves 20K outside North Bay proper.
Then again I’ve once heard that the neighbouring township of East Ferris (i.e. Corbeil) saw quite a bit of growth.

It’s similar for T Bay: 14K outside of city limit. I wonder which part contributes the most though: Oliver-Paypoonge, Conmee, Neebing, or Shuniah? (I have a feeling that it’s Shuniah just because the municipality once even considered opening a Costco.)

As for SSM, I wonder how much of that 5K is from places between Heyden and Havilland (beginning of 17 along Lake Superior).

Oli-poo is the largest by a wide margin. Around 6k.

.... and now for something different...

https://ofsc.evtrails.com/#

The OFSC Snowmobile trails have a gap of about 300km between Geraldton/Marathon and Thunder Bay.

With climate change causing S ON trails to not be open very long, I wonder what can be done to close the gap. There are some options, including the old CN rail bed to Thunder Bay and Geraldton.

Sault’s Legion Branch 25 to build veteran housing project with 107 units.
Will be the 10th tallest building in the city when completed.

Looks like condos at the old Sudbury hospital is still the plan.

https://www.panoramicproperties.ca/b...ite-in-sudbury

Quote:
Consisting of three (3) new proposed buildings, the development will include a 20-storey condominium, 16 storey urban loft (rental) building and a 12-storey retirement residence providing a total of 222 condominium units, 199 apartments, and 109 retirement guest suites.

Two of these buildings will be taller than Tom Davis Square and become Sudbury's tallest.

Sudbury NIMBY's out in full force.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbu...ural-1.6939589

Seems like the new Mayor understand how bad housing is in the city, looks like he supports the development very much.

The problem is, location, location, location. This is prime land on waterfront and parkland. To expect it to be lower income style affordable housing is crazy. However, to expect it to be middle income affordable is reasonable.

If rent in friggin Sudbury is as high now as that article indicates, they need more of these kinds of projects going as soon as possible.

They need more lower cost housing. However, this project cannot be it.

There are actually quite a few of affordable housing projects that are being built around the core and the city approved two 17 story buildings that should start anytime soon.

I completely agree that this is not the location for affordable housing. This is one of the nicest properties in the city and it would give some of the best views in the city. It should be priced as so.

Doesn’t explicitly have to be “affordable housing” per se. The whole reason we are in this crisis in the first place is a grotesque lack of supply combined with increased demand. Today’s mid-range housing is tomorrow’s affordable housing so I see nothing wrong with building more mid-range or even slightly higher-end stock.

The proposed development caters to the wealthiest 5%. It definitely would be a huge improvement over what is there now. People have the right to be upset at mainly unaffordable housing being built but this proposal is better than nothing happening in my opinion.
