Diving through old news prints reveals Travelstead was originally to be something like "150 stories" before they settled on the tapered 1080' design which was ultimately cancelled. Surely that would be fanciful even with the new rezoning, let alone 35 odd years ago? I've always taken "storeys" as simply a rough measure of height corresponding to 10 feet per storey myself, and not in the sense of of 1 storey = 1 floor. That would still have yielded the world's tallest building at the time.

I anticipate that the cross-bracing will be illuminated.

It's funny you should say that; take a look at the grating design in Cortland's entrance at 5:45 in this video:

https://youtu.be/KLaBILFVppU

It's almost exactly the same as this new building.

Per my Friend at JP ( grain of salt, but no reason to not believe). They haven’t taken anything off of the top just yet, what they are doing now is removing the last of the facade, removing and temporarily supporting the central elevator shaft. They are essentially going to work in then out in each floor and with most of the dented going down the shaft. Once that is done the building will start to come down.

Too bad your friend can't get us a few pieces of steel from the building. I'm sure a few of us would like to have relics.
