Well if money is no object, Wasabi(which is in the Market) is probably your best bet.
If you want something less pricey but still of amazing quality, try Restaurant Joy on Somerset between Bank and O'Connor. Their Dragonroll sushi is amazing.
Other places to try would be Kinki or Suisha Garden. I haven't been to Suisha in years, so I'm not sure what it's like now and I've never been to Kinki. Hope this helps.

Kinki is a bit of a tourist trap. Expensive and regular. Either wasabi, or the one my wife like the most is the one on Clarence Street just west of the Empire Grill.
Wasabi is on Clarence. It's pretty good. I used to go to Festival Japan on Kent which was good but I haven't been there for a long time.
A nice sushi place just opened up in the Exchange in Westboro with neat modern zen-ish decor.
If you are really hungry, a couple of all-you-can-eat sushi places opened up, one is Sushi Kan on Baseline/Merivale and another is 1000 Sushi Islands on Carling between Churchill and Broadview. It's not a buffet, you just order all you want for a flat price. It's OK for when you want to try the different kinds
I'm not a big sushi fan but some of my friends are starting to look like little rice pucks wrapped in seaweed. They tell me that Sushi Khan has very good quality food for an all-you-can-eat joint. I've also heard that Festival Japan has great Sushi. You guys go there and I'll go have some baby back ribs at Baton Rouge .
Thanks for the replies. We've tried Wasabi, Kinki, Suisha Gardens, Totoyada (?), Sushi 88, and Takara...none have really been anything special (I guess we're just sushi snobs!).
I hear Genji on Merivale is meant to be good, think that will be our next stop - oh, and the one in Westboro does look good from the outside, we'll have to see if it is up to snuff.
I know what you mean. I haven't been floored by any of the sushi places in Ottawa, either. Maybe it's because we just don't have a sizeable Japanese community here. It's all about the rice, it has to be translucent and glossy, and nobody here seems to do it just right. I was told it takes years of experience to master this, and those who do get hired in the really high-class joints in bigger cities.
In Hull, there's the Sushi Shop in the Place du Centre or on St-Joseph Blvd if you're feeling adventurous. I ate at one in Montreal and it wasn't that bad.
I noticed the other night that TJ Pagodas in the market seems to have gone out of business. That location has lost a few tenants over the last 10 years, most notably Hooters!

What really irked me is that Hooters shut down right before I moved here. This was on my lists of reasons to move! (kidding... or am I? )
I noticed a new sushi place on Promenade du Portage this morning.. Fuji Sushi (right next to Chez Henri). Might've been there for a while.. I'm not that observant.
I just tried 1000 Sushi Islands on Carling and it was better and cheaper than Sushi Kan.
I'll have to check it out...

There is a new one in Hull, called Sushi Hull, it shares a building with a Pizza joint, it is right across from the new Au Coq (corner of St-Joseph and St-Raymond). They have good lunch specials, and the sushi is some of the best I have tasted in the Ottawa area. (and I know Ottawa sushi is not that great, I often crave Vancouver sushi!)
Sushi Hull is conveniently located for people who are going to the Casino. Check it out, its small, cozy, the staff is Japanese and the prices are good too.
Restaurant Joy on Somerset between O'Connor and Bank has never disappointed me. And while pricey, Wasabi in the market is good.
