i am more drawn to memorable atmospheric than cute and charming. most are bumps in the road kinds of places, some based on pop music, but they are definitely unique and stick in the memory. places like philomath in georgia and charm in the middle of ohio amish country. leland, michigan kinda too. texas has a lot of this kind of thing, terlingua, luckenbach, gruene, etc., and my favorite los ebanos on the rio. i hope to do a long houston to new orleans road trip sometime soon as i imagine rural louisiana has some of this feel.
