Not a fan of the new Ho Chi Minh apts.

Why bother building on the river at all if you are going to ignore it?

Although there is a pretty generous surface lot behind the neighbouring property.. Would be cool to see something go there.

NIMBYs are destroying our cities. They ruin everything from transit to buidling projects. Our society is run by karens.

I'm actually not against a new apartment of that size, but wtf are they doing with the balconies? Why put them right next to the neighbouring building where there is virtually no sunlight, instead of on the backside where you can have a beautiful river view? Makes no sense!

Well, I'm curious to see what comes of this project. The Saigon Apartments was knocked down a few months ago. I walk by the vacant site everyday on my way to work.

At the Oct. 26, 2023 City Council Meeting, an extension of time was granted to the developer. They now have until Sept. 22, 2024 to "complete the necessary registrations at the Winnipeg Land Titles Office." The property was rezoned to RMF-L on June 6, 2022.

The request was discussed in another thread I think but this is the part of the developer's letter than gives zero faith this will ever go ahead:

Quote:
"WE HAVE HAD ADDITIONAL DELAYS WITH FINDING A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY WHOSE COSTS HAVE NOT INCREASED AS WELL OVER THE LAST YEAR"
So, it'll go ahead just as soon as the developer finds someone who will build it in 2024 for 2022 prices.
