In the early 90s I went on a road trip to Dubuque. Some friends of mine had some friends who lived there. We ended up staying a week and had a great time which was totally unexpected. During the day we hung out by the Mississippi on the beaches under the bluffs. At night we went to the bars downtown. It definitely wasn't hip but it wasn't a hick town either. It had that laid back, unpretentious, good time vibe that some small midwestern cities can pull off (and others can't). Back then the town was just comming out of some hard economic times but it definitely had soul and charecter.

This must be the greatest of Iowa cities! Nice topography and more of an Appalachian or Ohio River city look.

I would've never expected to see this in Iowa.

I normally don't care for places this (relatively) small, but those are nice shots, and the residential areas look nice.

sounds like a good time, i've spent an amount of time on the beaches of the mississippi. its an experience only a certain kind of soul could appreciate. i don't know if the ohio has the same kind of "beaches," but I know the muddy "mo" doesn't in her bowels.
