It's tent city sprawl. The ones inside tent city are being "forced" to leave so their spreading out over the city.

Times are tough these days

I like the overall design. The roof is good and if they keep with the color that would be a nice complement to what already exists in downtown. I would prefer a better location like the space just west of the CN Tower and south of the Stationlands. However, the contemplated location would be a good start to urban renewal of north downtown and I bet it would not have even been considered without the fact that Aurora has started the ball rolling...

It is definitely a condo tower that any city in Canada would find appealing.

Edmonton

Calgary

Obviously very different podiums, but still quite similar.

Yes - finally Edmonton, nice project, lets hope this starts a trend. I kind of like that it's on the north edge - it will stick out more and expand the skyline.
Three 40 storeyers would be Sweet! C'mon Procura.

WRT to your last sentence, I don't understand how parking can be accommodated above but not below ground. The "footprint" of the site area is larger than the podium.

Whoa, I've been out of the loop for a few days, and come back to see this! Awesome! Beautiful building!
I hadn't even seen this coming, hadn't even heard it rumored, so it's like an extra treat! Now if only some of the rumored ones on Jasper were to get announced and started on.

Very impressive. It will be a nice addition to the skyline. What would be the pricerage for the condo's?

Don't get me wrong as I like the roof detail but I wonder sometimes where the designs sometimes come from...you know...the inspiration...after looking at the model for the original roof and the amended version posted by Davee930, I like both but the original to me kind of looks like a Bic lighter...maybe the designer is a smoker???? Perhaps they should move the design closer to 107 avenue and it could be called "The Bic" by The Brick...just kidding...

That element on the roof is tacky. That needs to be gone.

Otherwise I love it, I think its about time Edmonton picks up their game in well designed highrises. Nicely done! I like to see this one get built.
9/10 for me, I rate this one as about on par with the big LaCaille project in Calgary. Excellent looking tower.

You're out of the woods
You're out of the dark
You're out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light
Keep straight ahead
For the most glorious place
On the Face of the Earth
Or the sky

Hold onto your breath
Hold onto your heart
Hold onto your hope
March up to the gate
And bid it open

That's a very spiritual way of putting it, Shodan...

I just hope that Dorothy and the Scarecrow grab a condo when The Edmontonian starts preselling units...

Nice tower, but considering that it is BCM behind this, I'm really not holding my breath. They haven't built anything over 7-storeys at this point and Founders Ridge is still in the approval process. Unless they hire somebody who has considerable experience developing a 40+ storey building, I don't think they can pull this off with their current resources.

QUOTE=Arch26;3046837]The middle is really blah. But the real problems are the podium and the top. They are SO awkward. Really really bad. If they took care of those issues, then it would be a decent average looking building.
[/QUOTE]

After taking a ride along the sky train route last week, I cannot image why someone from Vancouver would think this design is really blah and average. The roof is unique versus a typical cottage roof hat or a plain flat roof of which Vancouver has many. If they maintained that color which IMHO is one of the nicest tints of glass (like our Manulife) it would be just be beaming.

If you take away the balconies, you would have a similar basic curved structure to Vancouver's Wall Centre condo tower which is plain in comparison. And I might add that the by-color glass used in the Wall condo tower resulting from the Nimbys complaining on how dark the glass was that they had to change the upper floors in mid construction to lighten the exterior glass is no wonderful achievement.

So...I believe it is far from average...I hope they build this one...and fast.

you are really stretching the imagination here

One Wall's sleek curtain glass is far beyond the derivative window wall as shown in the Edmontonian's rendering. It also isn't hampered by an ill-conceived podium design or an odd canopy attempting, in vain, to hide the elevator core. - a perfect example of 'less is more'

Its a great development for Edmonton and a step forward but let's keep some prespective in this nationally/internationally open discussion
