I really really miss the time when NYC was New York the city of decent artistic skyscrapers not New York City the city of chopsticking cookie-cutting out of control crazy insane skyscrapers.

Love the old movies also, this guy has a bunch, many cities.

Looks like its the Lower East Side, right next to Cherry Street. Right where the NYCAH apartments stands or for frame of reference in modern sense, right next to where or within proximity to where One Manhattan Square is rising.

Amazing that when most of these photos were taken the classic 1930s skyscrapers had just been built, yet they seem timeless as if they had stood for hundreds of years

That's what I thought! This entire area was bulldozed for housing projects in the 1940s.
