Here's a new riverfront park in Bridgewater, NS, a town of 8,500. It's the newer, more industrial, and less touristy town in a cluster of towns and villages along the South Shore (Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are two others nearby that get a lot more tourists).
The viewing platform is just an odd arrangement. Then you have these long ramps down on either end of a very short dock. The parts are all separate rather than being incorporated as a cohesive unit. The dock doesn't have to end at the ramps. It could have maybe been extended beside the ramps allowing for the boat slips to shift away from the central staging area. There is a bridge to deal with on one side. The staircase could be built into the slope opening up more space on the viewing platform and without having to build the overbearing concrete wall.
Well I'mm sure given the space they had those ramps were the only solution to make it accessible at both ends for everybody. Having a family member in a wheelchair I can say I truly appreciate things like that now and how they open up the world to people with mobility issues.

The Berczy looks fine, well at least the brick section does and they can always fix the top in the future. Montreal is not immune to it. Le Phenix comes to mind. But you're right, that white spandrel section has no place in the area or anywhere for that matter.
Fllowing the complete demolition f the Bonaventure elevated expressway between Old Montreal and Griffintown, a new 8 lanes boulevard was created with a linear park in the center, which opens this week. The new boulevard is book-ended by two monumental sculptures.

Lot of elements that are pretty cool. The overall impression doesn't impress me though. It's also one that needs to be revisited in 5 to 10 years when the plantings have matured.

That was my reaction - it's nice but a bit spartan. It will be much more pleasant when the trees have filled out a bit. The art and amenties look great though.
McTavish is a street that cuts through the McGill campus in Montreal, from Pine Avenue at the foot of Mount Royal to Sherbrooke street on the edge of downtown. It's been recently completely revamped as a pedestrian street that became a brand new public space in the core. Here are some pics I took yesterday. I'm afraid they'll have to plant new trees...
