I'll admit I'm eyerolling about the "old growth forest" comments but I also don't think a freeway so close to Kelowna will ever make sense. The geography and the growth patterns of the area don't really jive with the concept at all. A more substantial bypass with connections to major centers could make sense, and by bypass I mean a significant bypass along the west side of Okanagan Lake from Vernon to Penticton. It wouldn't be right on the shore either, as I'm imagining something much further up the mountains to really keep it separate from everything there today.
There was studies done in the late 90s on a second crossing and it's not too surprising that even back then they didn't have an appetite for it.
