They just got their new awning approved for Main Street at the beginning of December so that should open soon.

Wow, the facade still looks grubby.

At least they opened.
The boarding's been up for the potential Metrotown mall location one for almost 3 years now - with no signs of when, or if at all they'll be open any time in the near future.

But you're correct about the exterior of this one.
It could have used a much bigger facelift from the old Champions' shoe store facade that they're replacing.

Considering how much work Jollibee's not that far from them put in their own exterior facade finish, you'd have expected or hoped for a bit more effort.
Also especially considering the Rec room opening up soon next door as well and also seemingly putting in a lot of TLC into their exterior.

That part of Granville has always been rough-looking especially with all the homeless that love to camp in that area, and just right outside the Mickey D's next door.
You'd have hoped the city would have pushed for a more refined exterior finish, especially if they still have plans of mounting a display AD screen over that corner.

It probably makes zero sense to dump any money into renovating the facade.

That would be their 4th Location as they have future locations at Park Royal and Brentwood (both still under development which was hampered by COVID-19).

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but a Kinton Ramen will be opening in the former Hub Bubb space on Robson near Homer.

Rodney's Oyster Bar has quietly closed after a two decade+ run in Yaletown and a decade in Gastown:

They're going to rake in money no matter what. Considering how well the company is doing, some cash for improving this isn't asking much though.

Lease rate is like 40K a month. And throw in they dumped a ton of money renovating the interior from retail use. Yeah I'm sure they're dying to chip in another few hundred thousand on the exterior.

I don't think they needed to totally replace the store front, but it might have been a positive move to either make the name big enough to cover the panel it's been fixed to, or at least spent $100 on white paint and touched up the old facade.

Frat boy antics will only take a place so far & there are so many better places for Oysters.

Paint would help alot.
I was just thinking they should have replaced the graffitti worn tiles!
It does look like they painted the granite tiles where the wooden slats and chicken logo are placed.
I guess the front doors have been kicked-in too many times so they are now half-panel.

Rodney's closure gets a [shrug]. TBH i went there when I had a hankering for oysters and the wait times for fanny bay were too long. The yaletown restaurant seemed to be more of a sports bar that happened to serve oysters and the dining room space was super awkward and cramped. I think a lot of traffic was due to its location and i would be surprised if they had repeat clientele.

What happened to oyster express in chinatown? they closed dining during the pandemic, but I am unsure if there are open again, if at all

Maybe it was the staff engaged in frat boy antics? (That could explain the middle aged women).

If they lasted twenty years in Yaletown they must have been doing something right.
