Nashville - Downtown - Part 1

Nashville is the 24th largest city in the United States by population (668,000) and is the largest city of the Nashville—Davidson–Murfreesboro–Columbia Combined Statistical Area (2,028,000) in Tennessee. It is the state's capital.

Downtown is a lively grid of development, contained on its Western side by railroad tracks and on its Eastern side by the Cumberland River. It features several historic streets of small commercial buildings, areas of grand civic buildings, and plenty of large-scale modern architecture peppered throughout with more growth in development. This thread will mostly concentrate on the more historic features.

Tennessee State Capitol:
Finished in 1859, it sits on a hill at the Northern edge of downtown.

War Memorial Auditorium:

State Library and Archives:

Tennessee Supreme Court:

Tennessee State Office Building:

Davidson County Public Building and Court House, and Public Square Park:

Frist Art Museum:
This early-30's building was originally the main post office, but today only a small branch on the lower level is used while the remainder is for the museum's use since 2001.

Grand Lodge of Tennessee:

Schermerhorn Symphony Center:

Various historic structures:

Customs House:

Union Station Hotel:
There is no passenger rail service here any longer, so the station has been converted to a hotel.

A few more stone edifices:

Deaderick Street:

Capitol Boulevard with the Nashville Public Library at its terminus:

Union Street:

5th Ave. N.:

The District:
This is the epicenter of the city's nightlife of bars and clubs; it is concentrated in 4 blocks of Broadway starting from the river, and spills into intersecting streets.

1st Ave. N.:

City view from Legislative Plaza:

City view on 7th Ave. N.:

City view from Public Square Park:
