Yeah that's what I'm referring to, but I don't know if I'd go as far as 3rd world. I'm hoping by 2025 when this terminal opens, travelers aren't greeted by this gorgeous thing only to go into a boarded up city along roads/ train lines riddled in graffiti, homeless camps and garbage. A lot of efforts are being made in the volunteer, public and private sectors right now, and I really believe we'll clean things up, but we still have a ways to go after over a year of sliding.

With the pandemic starting to come to an end, I can't imagine commercial spots being still boarded up in 2025. Over the next year or so, we will see a lot of these boarded up locations getting snatched up by people seeking prime locations to start their business or move locations to a better spot. I expect to see Portland thriving again by 2025 much like it was by 2012 after the Great Recession.

Yep, I completely agree. In a few years DT Portland will be thriving again, barring any other massive economic disasters. Parts of the economy are already rebounding quickly and even the worst parts of DT Portland are still no Skid Row.

Yep! They are building them right off the West end of runway 10L. You can see it from Marine Drive.

Alaska Airlines adds PDX routes to Tampa, New Orleans

By Elliot Njus | The Oregonian/OregonLive

Quote:
Alaska Airlines says it will start flying seasonal, nonstop routes in December from Portland International Airport to New Orleans and Tampa, Florida.

The first flights to both cities are set for Dec. 16, and the routes will operate through April 18. The outgoing and returning Florida flights are scheduled four days a week, while the New Orleans route will operate three days a week.

While air travel overall remains slow thanks to a decline in business trips, Alaska says reservations for leisure travel have exceeded pre-pandemic levels.

A shot of civic pride from good old PDX

PDX is ranked the best airport in the country again

By Lizzy Acker | The Oregonian/OregonLive
Quote:
Portland International Airport is back, baby.

After one year in the number two spot, PDX is the best airport in the United States again, according to Travel + Leisure, where it was for the seven previous years.

It appears that the pandemic, and a ton of construction, can’t stop Portland International Airport’s dominance.

According to Travel + Leisure, “Voters were so enthusiastic about PDX that it seemed some were even hoping for a delay on their next trip.”

Or maybe it's based on criteria, aided by the fact that our airport keeps improving.

Have you seen how much our airport has improved over the past decade? PDX has a lot to be proud of. It's great to see them getting the recognition they deserve, but it's even better to see how they don't rest on their laurels, so to speak.
