Where will You be watching the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse ?

Where is the best spot weather wise to watch the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse ?

Niagara Falls has generally been regarded as the Sunniest place in Ontario.

Last Total Solar Eclipse over North America until 2044 so don't miss it.

The Totality phase is the only time you can safely view it naked eye, the rest of the time you need solar eclipse glasses.

The path hugs the south side of the border. Unless you're in Niagara Falls or Newfoundland it's not a total eclipse. Solar system hates Eastern Canada. F.U.

New Brunswick will be some of the best views of the full eclipse.

Lucky for me, I have a work project in Niagara earlier that week and have managed to move things around so I can be in Niagara Falls that day. Or as close as one can reasonably get given what should be brutal crowding. I'm told hotel prices are... astronomical.

Quite simply, from home in southeastern Quebec, right in the exact middle of the path of totality.

My house will be in the path of the eclipse. So in my backyard, probably.

The solution is easy: this extremely dry area (part of the Chihuahua Desert) is ALSO right in the path of totality

Just a bit further away than Niagara Falls (but less crowded too!)

From my backyard! Kingston is well within the totality band at 3 minutes.

Realistically, though, most of us will miss it anyway. Statistically, April 8th is unlikely to be a sunny day in Eastern Canada.

Even on a totally cloudy day, it will still get dark in the path of totality, for about 3 - 5 minutes...

I'll be in my back yard too, in Port Colborne.

I've seen total eclipses before; they are all the same, it gets dark like it does every night.

We will probably be watching it from our lake house in Colchester, which will be in the path of totality, but we might decide to go to Point Pelee, not quite sure yet.

Probably Johnstown. I thought of going to Watertown, NY but it’ll just be dark a couple of minutes longer than in Johnstown/Prescott/Brockville, so I’ll probably won’t go that far, unless I am motivated that day.

Absolutely. I’ll be just north of Cocagne, New Brunswick. Full totality (unless it’s cloudy, which in April in the Maritimes is not at all unlikely.)

The edge of the path of totality is pretty much at Lute's Mountain on the northern flank of Moncton. Sadly, I have a previous commitment and will not be able to view the eclipse. I did see an eclipse in Charlottetown in 1972, so I have at least had the experience.

I hope you have clear skies.

Keep an eye on the weather. If it is cloudy in Cocagne, it might be clear in western NB. Your could be in Woodstock in three hours if you hoof it.

Quite a bit of SWO is in the path. Almost the entire shore of Lake Erie, and all of Norfolk, Haldimand, most of Brant, Hamilton and even into Burlington, plus the Niagara Peninsula. And then a big slice along the St. Lawrence.

Edit:

A neighbour got this thing a couple of days ago. It's $1,100 new and he got it for $470 used. He's taking up the hobby but had an interest before. He said he's heading down to Fort Erie.

A few years ago my wife's SIL got something like this from a rich old lady. She cleans houses and most of her clientele are very well off. A lot of the time they don't bother trying to sell something that is no longer needed. Just give it away. I see this sometimes when driving close to Lakeshore where the mansions are. You'll see some pretty valuable stuff at the curb.

Lots of schools will be off on April 8th. They announced that a few weeks ago. They switched another day that was a PA day to April 8th.
