Interesting video about glass facades on skyscrapers. Personally I feel the glass boxes are boring looking and would love to see more diversity in design.

That’s a good question. The concrete core and steel construction I assume is good for offices since you can customize floor plans a little easier depending on the tenants. Hotels and residential have a more fixed floor plan so I could see it either way with our CCH. I’m betting steel for some more expansive meeting rooms but I really have no idea.

Good. I don't understand why all this new development refuses to have any level of engagement with the street, especially in areas where pedestrian-oriented development is key to to revitalizing that street engagement. Almost every significant development on 400 South abandoned street interaction and it's basically resulted in blocks of dead zones in an area that could really use some work at utilizing the TRAX stops.

I get this building doesn't, like at all, but maybe they can figure something out during a renovation.

While I think that building is ugly as hell, it has the potential to be renovated into a more interesting building given its shape and the fact that it comes right up to the street. On the other hand, I also think that would be an excellent corner for something taller...

Given that street and corners increasing prominence I would like to see a mixed-use tower go up there. Something as tall or taller than Liberty Sky.

Check out what is going on in Nashville. They are booming! So much more than most cities that I've checked out recently.

Okay, so after viewing an early render of the building, I would guess that it will be steel framed with two elevator shafts on either side of the tower. This would explain why there will be two cranes.

From Schmoe, it should break ground in early Summer 2021.

Nashville and Austin are crazy right now. Every time I'm in Austin I'm blown away. It's incredible.

Nashville and Austin are absolutely on fire, but SLC is also no slouch right now. We have four 20+ story buildings U/C or proposed and two potentially 30+ story buildings proposed, plus a ton of residential infill under construction. That's pretty good compared to our peer cities, which are probably (by population) Louisville, Buffalo, Richmond, etc.

Btw, here's an aerial of downtown from a couple days ago, found on Reddit:

Makes me realize just how underdeveloped/underutilized Southwestern downtown is.

Every time I see an aerial from the west, I always think back to this aerial of Houston from the 1970s:

Okay, Salt Lake isn't THAT bad but with the size of the blocks, it's depressing at just how awful a lot of these buildings utilize those blocks.
