Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think scoring is always higher at the start of the season before teams start to lock in their defensive systems. It's still a good sign though.

A classic matinee game with little effort or care.

Man the Oilers looked like crap today/with the exception of Campbell.

That is generally the case. Still nice to see. Scoring race should be interesting this year as a lot of quality players are putting up a good pace to start.

Another fantastic first period by the Oilers. Someine needs to lose a job because this team is built and coached to lose.

NJ going back to the colors of the franchise roots (KC Scouts & Colorado Rockies) is cool but they didn’t take it far enough.

Best: LA
Ok: MINNY, PHILLY
Worst: ARiZ

Not a good recipe for success later on. Hopkins for team MVP right now.

Not a fan of what seems to look like either a drunk or beaten up dog either. Not a fan of many of them. Some are pretty close to interesting, but then have something weird or unbslanced to them. Stripes slightly too thick. Actually, I think I just hate the NHL logo just below the neck on all of them.

Winning is not a good recipe for success? Can spot the Oiler haters from a mile away. Let's go Oilers!

I'm not an Oilers hater at all.

I'm not sure how wanting them to play more than 40 minutes makes one a hater.

Your posting history would suggest otherwise. And if you're not, you mention them quite a bit.

I'd disagree for I too am quite hard on them and expect more from them. They are a hard team to watch until they aren't, but that's not a great foundation for success.

We must find a way to play a more cohesive first period, period.

I like virtually all of them.

The Canadian teams whiffed on this except Vancouver, they got this right and prefer to do their whiffing on the ice.

I mention them a lot because I am interested in them as a team. I am pretty consistent in my views on them and Montreal because I've lived in both cities and have a fondness for both cities and both teams. I do tend to just enjoy good hockey though without caring too much about the result or which teams are playing.

I just want to see effort from them for most of a game and not rely on two players to bail them out in the second half of the game. They could be a pretty decent team. It's frustrating seeing them with the same old issues and be no better than 3rd in their division or just getting a wild card spot.

Most figured it would be rough season, but even by that standard it has been a rough start.

Nah.

They will get things sorted and have one of the best Jan-April records in the league.

Edmonton's best first period of the year!

Jesse with his 1stG

St.Louis playing a harder second though...

Huge win for the Oil and a complete team effort.

Skinner looks LEGIT.

It was. Nice to see. Would have liked to see them up their game a little to match St. Louis in the second, but nice to see a first period lead.

I'm trying to remember if last year the Oilers were consistently more prepared on the road then at home. Seems suspicious in my memory.

Good outing from Skinner.
