Building envy-buildings that you would like to see in your skyline

Hello everyone!

I must say I was a member of the skyscraper page back in the late 90's when it first began and how it has grown! At he time I lived in Wilson, NC- then moved to Palm Beach County Fl. During that period in Florida I didn't keep up much but now I'm back in my hometown of Pittsburgh and plan to stay awhile. Good to see all of the Pittsburgh people on board, there were not too many "Yinzers" back in the early days...now we are all over the place on here....Anyway, what building or buildings that are located in another city would you place in your city? For some reason I would like to see how the Bank of America Center in Charlotte would look between the Steel building and the Bank of NY/Mellon in downtown Pgh. I think it would fit well within the city dynamic and would be the tallest in the city(barely), If anyone could photoshop ( I don't know how to do that photoshop stuff) that image to the Pitt skyline or add your building envy to your city please do!

P.S. Whatever happened to those far right forumers (pseudo nazis) from Denver & Minneapolis that used to post on here??

JHC in Calgary. No reason other than I love looking at JHC and it would be almost twice the height of anything else in that town.

Pgh's Cathedral of Learning near Jefferson Univ. Hospital in Philly.

In Center City.... Penobscot Bldg. (beacon incl'd) & Book Tower (both in Detroit), Newark's proposed Prudential Tower*, Chicago Federal Bldg (1879 Beaux-Art with dome, demo'd in '65), old GE tower (1931) Park Av. (NYC)
*probably not a well-known proposal, this WWI-era, 45-storey, Romanesque-Gothic tower would have been friggin' gorgeous!

Newer buildings?

Vienna's Millennium Tower near the Peco Bldg, or on the north side of Vine St. Expwy. And Hartford had plans for a 878 footer, but was canned. Cutter Financial Center. Put that one near Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Well this thread is kind of useless without the pictures...seriously...so I figured I would do a little leg work to show a building I wish was in Portland.

The William Beaver House would be good for the region that is known for their beavers...the animal...not what you are probably thinking.

Standing at around 523ft, it would be Portland's third tallest building and I placed it roughly at the parking lot that is at 10th and Alder.

I know, this is the kind of architecture I would love to see rising in the Portland skyline...plus something like this would only be the third tallest, so it would fit in with the rest of the skyline for not being "too big."

i've longed dreamed of thieving Pittsburgh's US steel tower and placing it on wolf point in chicago.

it's one of my absolute favorite buildings in the world and it would be oh so wonderfully at home in the city of big shoulders (not that it's not a good fit in pittsbugh too, but i just love it so damn much that i want it in my city.)

The US steel tower would look awesome in a tight grouping with the John Hancock Center and the former Sears Tower as a super block of mammoth black steel behemoths!
Those 3 buildings would combine to make a complex of 9.66 million square feet.

US Steel - 2.3 million
Willis Tower - 4.56 million
John Hancock - 2.8 million

Here's my wishlist for Cleveland (again - apologies to KCGridlock, but his photos have the best angles for this kind of thing).

As most people know, there's a cluster of parking lots adjacent to Cleveland's Public Square and that's the area I've focused on. I don't necessarily want a specific building from another city, but the massing and general "feel" of them, if that makes sense.

From left to right:
1. An office tower about 550'-600' on Public Square - something along the lines of First National from Omaha or 1250 Rene Levesque in Montreal (glassy/curvy).

2. A mixed-use complex that helps transition from Public Square to the Warehouse District. In this case, I chose Waterfront Square from Louisville to serve as the tallest portion (just under 300') and then filled the rest of the site with low/midrise.

3. A hotel tower about 400'-425' to fill the site that currently serves as the entrance to underground parking for Tower City Center (Terminal Tower complex). The big blank rectangle in the original photo is the ballroom of the adjacent Renaissance Hotel, so this tower could possibly be directly connected. I thought something like Milwaukee's University Club tower would work well here.

thanks for putting that together. the only thing i would change from the above image would be to rotate the building clock-wise just a tad so that one of the points of the triangular plan would be pointing due south, thus fitting onto the triangular site of wolf point much better.

I noticed that, too. Good call. One advantage of the way it would sit now is that people, whose offices face that direction, would have a nice view down the river, but turning it point-to-point makes more sense.

MayDay, seems you did a good job of filling in the spitting gap between Terminal Tower and the other two big ones (one of them is Keybank?)

IFC seems to be a perfect fit for Dallas!

Mayday how do you think Commerzbank Frankfurt would look in Cleveland? I think it would look good around the area you placed the Omaha tower. I didn't realize Cleveland had so many surface lots downtown. If I were dictator of all cities, I would ban all surface parking lots! Not only are they ugly, they are inefficient, under use of valuable land, anti-green, less secure than parking garages...and on!
