^^ WHAAA??? That's news to me?? Why would they want to demo it? There wasn't enough surface parking in the core?? hahaha

Was that under Jack Macdonald's reign of terror?

they even took out the stained glass in preparation for demolition. thankfully they salvaged them some years later and put them back in the lobby. this city went nuts in the 60's, 70's. even if we kept old city hall and birks we'd have a way different city then today. at least we kept pigott, lister (gulp), right house, various Gore area buildings, BMO, GO, old fed building(James north one, not Main West) etc......

RTH, you'll have to refresh my memory--I have no recollection of the planned demolition. There was a considerable interior demo done on the buildings after they were vacated in the early/mid 80s, in anticipation of conversion to a hotel. Sometime along the way the hotel project took a dirt nap and the buildings sat vacant for a few years before the Heritage Garden project brought them back to life. The buildings are spectacular, and a real centerpiece downtown.

By "buildings" you refer to Pigott and Sun Life, correct? Got me a little confused there...

Even for 549,000 it is still a steal for a unit like that. Not bad. There is another two story unit for sale in the 249,000 range. Wish I could buy now
