Cue the pitchfork brigade in opposition to this application.

Interesting cover page on the Planning Rationale...I think somebody forgot to fill in all of the blanks on the template.

I haven't taken a close look at the actual application, but conceptually I don't have an issue with a four story mixed-used building at this location. There are currently three story town homes behind it as shown below. It is right in the heart of old Stittsville and close to The Trans CanadaGreat Trail.

Done right, it could be a step towards improving Stittsville Main St. I would love to see it become more like Richmond Rd. in Westboro or Bank St. in the Glebe (increase density and improve walkability). To do that we need to get rid of those houses and replace them with storefronts.

Interesting that while the lot is labelled 1531, it has 4 buildings on it (1531, 1535, 1539 and 1541). They are also using a second lot behind that has no address or buildings.

Huntington Properties is proposing to construct a 4-storey mixed-use building at 1531 Stittsville Main Street. The building will be comprised of commercial units on the ground floor and 44 residential units above. The development will also include a block of townhomes at the rear of the site.

Tell 'em Kramer, anyone who pays "retail" for their signage is a sucker!

After a quick glance, I'm in favour of this project. Stittsville Main St. is in need of revitalization and I think a mixed use project like this is a great start. It's close to Routes 61, 261, and 263 and is pretty walkable (for Stittsville). I doubt there will be significant opposition to the project.

I agree. It adds some density and fits in with the character of the street. The plans look good so far. Hopefully they don’t pull a bate and switch.

Stittsville Central has posted an article that is supportive of the development. No new information, but it is an interesting read and has a few comments already.

Good to see some density on Stittsville Main. One of the few suburban main streets with potential, thanks in part to its history.

Agreed! Between this and the proposed development across the street at 1518-1526 Stittsville Main we are starting to see a nice transition of Stittsville Main. I see a lot of potential for further density south-east of Abbot St. but I see more of a challenge to the north-west.

Damn, they dropped the wood paneling and went with Charcoal brick and charcoal panels. The building still looks great.

They couldn't get the metal cladding in time, so they went with masonry..
Company I work for did the work.. was an extra bonus for us!!

The stone in the central facade looks wicked. Even without the wood this building ended up looking better overall than the last renders. I wish more buildings in this city would tastefully mix up materials along exposures to break up the monotony.

Looks great. Stittsville Main really stepping-it up. Good example for other established suburbs. Hard to do this on stroads like Innes and Hazeldean, but St. Joseph and Kanata Avenue? Katimavik? Not sure, but we need more of this in the suburbs.
