I don't know about Muji but Uniqlo is expanding rapidly and I would be surprised if they don't have one or more Halifax-area locations in a few years.

It would be neat to see Uniqlo in, say, the Roy Building. They started out with downtown storefront locations in a bunch of North American cities. Admittedly these are much larger cities than Halifax but then again Halifax's downtown seems to be attracting more and more of these larger retailers.

Simon, Uniqlo and Muji are the only things that Halifax is really missing now in terms of retail.

When I lived in Seoul I would shop there as I felt the fit was better for me and the prices were great.

There are a few other stores from Asia I would like to see over here but these are the big ones.
Simons strong maybe
Muji very possible
Uniqlo long way off

I thought Simons was long rumoured to be considering the vacated Sears / Eaton's space at HSC. Anyone heard any updates, if not, what are the plans for that large space?

Muji is so expensive though, like ridiculously so. Most people I know from Asia say that can't believe how expensive it is here cause it's so cheap in Asia. I bought a shower brush thinking it would be like $10 at the most, a lot of the products don't have Canadian prices on them and the shelves are not fully labeled. Long story short I go to pay for it and it was like $31. So now I track staff down and get stuff price checked before committing to buy it lol.

Uniqlo though is great, great quality and quite cheap. A little boring if your into "fashion" but great stuff.

I would hate for Marshall's/Homesense. They are stores that bait people with fake prices and don't look good at all inside.

HSC should have flagship stores in it for the area. They did great with Zara, H&M and The Apple store I would hope they keep the momentum going with that area.

I think a Simons store could easily take all three floors.

Do you think there'd be a remote possibility that Hudson's Bay would close Mic Mac and re-located back to HSC now that the flagship space is available?

Mic Mac Hudson's Bay looks pretty sad and some of the re-vamped Hudson's Bay locations here in Vancouver, like Richmond Centre, complete with Topshop / Topman, look really good.

I worry about the one in Mic Mac its suspicious that they haven't renovated as they have in 90% of their stores across the country

even Sydney the external signs have been changed to Hudson's Bay vs. The Bay

I think they still have original 1973 carpet in a few spots in the MicMac store.

A move by The Bay to HSC makes a lot of sense IMHO.

HSC has clearly won the race to being Halifax's "fashion mall". It would be prudent for The Bay to consider a move in order to keep competitors (like Simons) out of the Halifax market.......

Although Mic Mac Mall is now undergoing major renovations to try and keep up with HSC.

They still have some prominent retailers like (just to name a few):

Forever 21
H&M
Eddie Bauer
Gymboree
Build-a-Bear Workshop
LUSH Cosmetics
MAC Cosmetics
Sephora

Mac isn't a stand alone store though right. I believe it is only in The Bay

The original 'The Bay' sign could be a indicator of the Mic Mac location in trouble, The only location here in Metro Vancouver that still has 'The Bay' sign is Oakridge as it's pending demolition and relocation when the mall's redevelopment is complete.

I'm not sure Simons is a very direct competitor, and the city could have both. HSC could have both.

It's a little weird that the Bay is still operating a single crumbling store at Mic Mac and one in Sydney though. Seems hard to believe that they are profitable or have a long-term future without a major course correction. It reminds me of Sears.

Mic Mac has taken down the hoarding inside, and Linen Chest opens today on the second floor with an exterior private entrance with Escalators/elevator

also a new set of escalators in the mall about 30m from teh current ones in teh Target end and a new mall entrance on the wall closest to Lake Banook

I figured the writing was on the wall for the Mic Mac HBC when they passed on the opportunity to relocate to the more prominent south end of the mall.

While I could see the logic of HBC taking some of the former Sears space, my dream scenario was to have the brand relocate to Barrington Street in the redeveloped Maritime Centre. After all, it’s been 70 years since predecessor Simpsons left the street and 25 years since there’s been a department store in downtown Halifax (with the closure of Woolco).

There is a reason why department stores are not downtown any more. In this city it is a terrible location for any retailer that relies on all areas of HRM to support it.
