wow, and yet another one goes up. I'm starting to think it isn't out of the question for HRM to see 30 cranes up at once

Our joy in seeing all these cranes in a formerly mostly crane-less peninsula is certainly biased, since we're all skyscraper enthusiasts. But with this many cranes up now in HRM, I'd love to see some polled opinions on what Haligonians are thinking and feeling Hell, I want to know this about people in the three other local provinces!

I bet this is doing wonders for the morale of Atlantic Canadians. Halifax's success translates into more business for their economies. And getting back to our bias: there is so much material on the Canada page from Central Canada and the Rocky Mountain provinces; it needs more Atlantic Canadian content, I think.

After so many decades, Halifax's more urban areas are beginning to feel alive again!

At the very least, it's driving the anti-development crowd into a nervous breakdown.

Based on what I see on this forum and elsewhere I doubt that's how people outside of Halifax see it.

I drove by tonight, it is definitely a tall crane, looks like a new one for around here. The boom remains to be hoisted. I will try to grab a photo on the way to work in the morning.

I'm divided. Personally I love Halifax, I loved living there and I visit numerous times every year (I was there last weekend for example). But at the same time I'm a huge supporter of Saint John, and I hear a lot of people get concerned about being overshadowed by success in Halifax. At the end of the day however, I know growth in HRM is more beneficial for SJ than a faltering Halifax economy, so I'm all for it! I think growth in any Maritime city is a good thing, because in all honesty we're so close together geographically that really I feel like a citizen of the Maritimes, not of one particular municipality.

I don't expect people living hours away to get overly excited about stuff that happens in Halifax but I do think that growth in Halifax helps the rest of the region. I don't think the "zero sum" attitude -- the idea that any gain in Halifax must be a loss for other parts of the region -- is accurate. I also don't think "rivalries" makes a ton of sense either when it comes to Halifax and other cities in the region.

Great pictures, by the way. It will be interesting to see a view of this crane with the rest of the West End/Mainland Halifax area. That part of the city is filling in a lot.

I watched them build it this morning. I have 4-5 pictures that I will edit into this post soon.

I took a bb video too. Will see if I can get that uploaded tonight.

Couple from me tonight. Lead Formwork seems quite busy, I wonder if this crane and the one on Larry Uteck are just rentals, or if they bought these two to meet the growing demand.

I live in Montreal but I still get quite excited when I hear of new highrise development in HRM...then again I was born and raised in NS so Halifax has always been my "city"

My thought is that the crane will probably be raised up at a later date. IMO it looks a little short for a 16 story building at the moment.
