All rentals?
I have a vague recollection that the developer is moving into the penthouse.

From what I remember, his wife didn't want to live downtown in the Trillium, so they will live in this one.

No worries, it's been a while since I've taken any, might grab some more of the suburban ones tomorrow if I get bored.

Cheers. This is the foot of Quinpool essentially. Nice to have density around this node.

Apparently it doesn't take long to install pre-fab walls.

The precast panels certainly are going on fast. What a difference it made. This is a great looking building.

Thanks for the updates Dmajackson.

Looks really good... better precast than most. So happy the NIMBYs didn't shut this one down.

One of three skyline-style shots from the foot of Quinpool today. Click on photo to see the others.

When I was a kid we spent a lot of time in Shad Bay with relatives and getting into the city required passing through the roundabout. I Always saw this area as a mini skyline area out of the downtown. Maybe that furthered my impression that Halifax was a big city back then

This building reminds me of the "Hyde Condo" default building in Sim City 4, hoping someone can make that connection!

Neighbours down on high-rise
March 28th, 2014
BRETT BUNDALE CITY HALL REPORTER

A large apartment complex being built on Craigmore Drive in Halifax looms over the surrounding residential neighbourhood. (INGRID BULMER / Staff)

Quote:
A group of Armdale residents is frustrated because they never got their day in court to argue against an apartment complex that’s eclipsing their neighbourhood.

It’s a story that pits landowners in the small middle-class enclave against one of the city’s largest development firms.

Stuck in the middle of the debate is Halifax Regional Municipality and questions about alleged loopholes in the city’s planning and development rules.

At issue is a 16-storey, 77-unit residential highrise nestled in what developer Banc Group bills as a lush tree belt with views of the Northwest Arm and Ashburn Golf Course.

Residents will either have to accept more densification, or urban sprawl and increased taxes for servicing fringe areas. I can sympathise with neighbours in detached homes next to a high-rise but some people want to oppose densification even in areas where it should occur such as can be seen with the current Carlton Terrace opposition. People can't have it both ways.

The downsides of high-rises, unless they are poorly-planned (i.e. they have completely preventable failings), is also much smaller than what people tend to imagine or argue about once something is proposed in their backyard.

As I type this at home I'm within a couple hundred meters (maybe less?) of a bunch of 20-30 floor highrises and most of the time I forget they're even there. They have no impact on shadows or wind where I am. The biggest impact they have is that they make it possible for there to be much better transit service and a lot more shops around here than would otherwise be sustainable.

Totally. That shot is taken during the winter... trees will likely even obscure that building.

Like I've said in the past, the Welsford is a prime example of how this isn't even an issue.

Hopefully this will have a sister in the near future. What a view of the arm the Penthouse will have.
