Visual Insanity - Lake O'Hara [31 images]

And a few random ones from the last ten days in the Canadian Rockies. Lake O'Hara is covered in images 4 - 20. I had a lot of fun messing with the super-wide lens. I think it was worth carrying the beast around.

Go to Lake O'Hara. On a good day, your brain will love you for decades even if you don't take any photos.

1) Exshaw. Always pass by and I always want to stop to grab an image

2) Storm Mountain Lodge

3) aspen trees and mountain views

4) did someone ask for glass-like stillness this morning at Lake O'Hara?

5) on the way to Wiwaxy Gap

6) ack, I can't take it, memory card bursting at the seams

7) the view away from Lake O'Hara at Wiwaxy Gap

8) a 500m straight-up stair climb, but worth every bit of lactic acid

9) focus anywhere, it seriously doesn't matter here

10) looking up while traversing the Huber Ledge

11) glacial striations on rock with Lake Oesa in the background

12) mmmm contrasty

13) some day, I'll hike to Abbot's Pass, but not today

14) no comment

15) Lake O'Hara from the Yukness Ledge

16) Opabin Plateau

17) view from a little higher of the Opabin Plateau

18) obligatory closeup of a larch tree in autumn's full yellow autumn

19) ferns turning golden

20) time to rest these boots

21) Castle Mountain

22) autumn is wonderful

23) Helen Lake and Cirque Peak, not enough time to scramble this one today, but next time

24) a late lunch above Helen Lake (a rare photo of me)

25) some styrofoamy consistency snow for the hike down

26) forest fires and rebirth

27) the remains of the 2003 Kootenay forest fire near Marble Canyon

28) aspen trees

29) up to Sentinel Pass we go

30) just a few little switchbacks to go, but the weather is looking grim

31) the view of Grand Sentinel, there should be a lake in Paradise Valley below, but the snow is cool

Good Lord! Astonishing scenery, and photography to match!

We flatlanders aren't allowed to look at photos of places like that because they cause discontent among the laboring classes. I hope I don't get caught and punished by spending the rest of my life in a windowless basement.
