A biproduct of AC not resuming the seasonal route this summer? Definitely lots of demand for Atlantic Canada in the summer.

Bodes well for YYG eventually going year-round.

AC are showing with the start of the winter schedule YYC-YOW increasing back to 2x daily with both flights showing upgauged to 7M8s.

Anecdotally, on my flight home from FLL on AC1697 last Tuesday there were at least 6 people on-board connecting to YVR. I was very surprised to learn that it was much cheaper for them through YOW. Kind of expected that flight to be 100% O&D.

That’s my experience as well on the last few FLL trips I’ve taken. Cruise traffic probably. FLL-YOW was in prior years a 2030-2100 departure so no chance of connections in YOW on arrival at midnight. Now the departure is 1230ish, which is well timed on arrival for YVR etc. Shows you how timing things opens up opportunities.

O&D has always been strong on this route regardless. Was at one point even double daily on certain days and year-round with 1x(?)-weekly in summer. If they continue timing connections I feel the Rouge 319 will need an up gauge. Personally, I preferred the old timing because you get the full final day in FLL.

If you book your air through the cruise line, they will often give you a strange routing.

Maybe, but there is nothing strange about this routing at all.

I may be bias, but YOW is a great option for connections. If I lived outside Ottawa, I would for sure choose YOW over YUL and YYZ if the option was there. I would personally pay a premium to avoid those two.

If no more cancellations (unlikely given the weather) it would tie for the most.

Are PD's cancellations due to lack of passengers, or is they struggling with some systemic problem?

Apparently it’s a staffing issue, more specifically, lack of pilots. I don’t know that for a fact, it’s what I’ve heard. Most of these cancellations are to YYZ On the E2’s.

On an unrelated note, the hotel grant was tied today on votes. Does anyone know how much the hotel is needed to really boost activity at the airport?

It's more of a prestige project to have a hotel attached to the terminal. Is it just me or has the hotel's location been moved to beside the rail line at the transborder end in the latest artist rendering? If it ever gets built, it would make more sense to plop it there. If PD were to ever hit a massive home run and take YOW to say 10 million pax/year all that ramp space where gates 28-34 of the old ATB once stood coupled with the long-term parking would be needed for a terminal expansion. Obviously a pipe dream in terms of traffic numbers at this point, but you probably don't want a modern hotel blocking that space when it might be needed for terminal ops 20 years from now.

Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see how council votes.

Today’s departure count: 35, including 5 sun flights & PAL is going nonstop to YYT today as PB9241...don't know if it's carrying pax or will ferry there. All 14 flights with departure times before 0730 got out, meaning the max the rest of today is 21.

Today’s cancellation count (so far): 39
