Hamilton, Ontario

This is an early 20th century working class neighbourhood in East Hamilton.

Ivor Wynne Stadium is in the middle of this neighbourhood. The Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL play here.

We are blessed with a last tour before you leave

Thanks Flar, and I'm glad you did the neighbourhood just north of our place (South Stipeley) for your last Hamilton tour.

All your photo tours have been great, and I'm sorry to see you leave Hamilton.

Nice pictures. I think I remember asking where that stadium was located a while ago.

I'm guessing that this was/is a Polish neighborhood, and is also a Caribbean neighborhood?

I'm gonna really miss flar's phototours from Hamilton. *sniffles*

Yes, there's a large Polish community along Barton St East. You even took a picture of Price Eddy, haha I've heard A LOT of stories from that tavern.

Thanks for all of your photos flar!

The Polish area is on Barton between Sherman and Gage. There are a lot of Eastern Europeans in East Hamilton, notably Ukrainians, Serbians and Croatians in addition to Polish. I think the Caribbean population is relatively recent. This neighbourhood used to have a lot of Italians too but I don't think there are that many left.

I photographed another neighbourhood in early March that I will post here sometime. I also have a few other tours from over the years that I never posted. If any of them look worthwhile I will post them someday.

Excellent as always.

I have an odd fascination with this one, don't exactly know why:

Good old Ivor Wynne Stadium, built in 1930 for the first Commonwealth Games. Today it's falling apart but still seats over 30,000 for TiCats games.

Somebody once posted some kickass photos from a Pink Floyd concert at Ivor Wynne back in the 70s but I can't find them. Apparently there is a good bootleg recording of that concert as well. What I wouldn't give to have been there.

It's nice to see the other areas of Hamilton.
I might be moving to Toronto eventually, so I need to get over there.
I'm assuming you'll miss Hamilton? Ottawa is nice too, though

Wish I explored the southern part of this neighbourhood more, there are some interesting houses in that area. I saw these houses south of King when I was doing this tour, but didn't have enough time that day to go deeper.

My cousins used to own/operate that Bowling alley until my uncle died. Their old house is in your photos too. It is now a storehouse for their window replacement business.
