Top 20 City Diagrams

For years now I have taken a screenshot of the main Diagram page. My goal was to track the progress of various cities as they increased thier numbers over a long time span.

See if your favorite city is on the list!

I've more than doubled the number of entries for Hong Kong, but still not managed to move it from the 4th spot.
Managed to retake it after a drop to the 6th place at least.

The top 20 competition is more intense than expected and requires time investment

Drawing all the buildings for my city (Quilmes), I managed to place it in the top 20 for a few weeks (it had 0 drawings when I started). It was one of my goals when I signed up and I was able to achieve it. Sadly, that was 100% of all highrises, so it won't be able to go back to that spot anymore. It was good while it lasted, anyway.
Now the city is reaching 280 highrises (not all in the database yet), but it will no longer be able to appear there.

Another of my goals was to make Buenos Aires rise in the ranking, for which I contributed around 400 drawings.

Just as the ranking was in 2022, Argentina could have about 9 cities in it:

• Buenos Aires City (more than 11.000 highrises)

• Rosario and Córdoba: around 2.000 highrises

• Santa Fe, Mar del Plata and San Miguel de Tucumán: around 1.000 highrises

• La Plata: around 500

• Neuquén and Bahía Blanca: +300

And we are only two Argentine illustrators, so it will not be an easy task (rather, it will be impossible ).

Yes, that would be a lot of drawings to make! We have a similar problem here in Canada, especially Toronto, too many undrawn buildings, and not enough illustrators.

Is there any city in the Top20 that has drawings for most of its highrises?
Or even entries in SSP for most of its highrises?

I think Kyiv is mostly drawn... but I'm not from there so I don't really know for sure.

My hometown and ex-top20 Riga city is mostly drawn, only missing about 10 drawings.

When my city made it to the top 20, it had 100% of its highrises drawn (none else existed). From then on, I only add those that are being built or proposed.
Currently, I only have to draw three, and then add about 5 more to the database.

In the current top 20, only Kyiv seems to have most of its buildings drawn, but I don't know what percentage of the actual total is in the database.

Toronto has about half of its buildings drawn. There are over 1700 undrawn towers over 35 metres. Most are in the 35 to 70 metre range, I have drawn most of the taller ones except for new proposals, which still happen all the time. There are probably a bunch more that haven't made it into the database yet...

I entertained myself for half an hour by answering my own question:

Kharkiv 99,8 %
Taichung 98,5 %
Kyiv 97,1 %
Santiago 93,9 %
Rotterdam 86,6 %
Jakarta 82,2 %
Hong Kong 69,1 %
Amsterdam 68,0 %
Bangkok 66,6 %
Chicago 61,2 %
Buenos Aires 55,9 %
Los Angeles 49,7 %
Toronto 47,9 %
Montreal 43,0 %
Mexico 36,7 %
London 36,5 %
Tokyo 28,1 %
New York City 20,3 %
Dubai 13,1 %
Seoul 13,0 %

This is drawings/# of entries in SSP for the Top20 cities.

I bet most North American and European cities (and maybe the cities of a few more countries) has most of their highrises in the SSP database. Wereas many other countries (especially China) has very few of their highrises on SSP.

My hometown has 6 highrises. All on SSP with drawings. So that's 100 %

Yeah, that 56 % of Buenos Aires in reality would be barely 5 % of all existing highrises.
It's probably something similar with Tokyo.

If Artemco had not been busy with the Ukraine war, Kyiv or Kharkiv could have been the first city to achieve 100%.

Asian mega cities are definitely underreported regarding <150m high-rise/skyscrapers as well places like São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Moscow, etc… that simply don’t keep track of dime a dozen high-rise heights.

Another year, another graphic:

It looks like Montreal has risen rapidly this year, 13th to 8th...

Shanghai made the Top20. Is that for the first time?

Yes, looks like it. Could rise rapidly too. What we need is someone from there to input the building data into the database.

I remember seeing that Shanghai and Shijiazhuang were both in the Top 20 before 2020

Looks fun that Shijiazhuang's was more than China main cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen.

This is because there is a illustrator named Zhen in Shijiazhuang, just like there is a Steamboy in Taichung in the top 20
这是因为石家庄有个名叫Zhen的画师,就像Top20里的台中有个名叫Steamboy的画师一样。
