It certainly gets extra points for truth in advertising, and for being a testament to the local civic character. Having lived in all three Maritime provinces, I have observed that Moncton has a decidedly different optimism and entrepreneurial spirit compared to most other cities in the region.
Gander "Have A Look Around"
Hali-Fax "A 20th Century City"
Montreal "Take Our Picture (s'il vous plait!)"
Ottawa "Capital Punishment"
Toronto "Canada's Most Beloved City"
Winnipeg "We Hop To It", "The Poo City"
Regina "Be A Queen For A Day"
Calgary "This Ain't Indiana"
Vancover(sp?) "Palm Springs North"
I drove past this yesterday and thought of this thread
Not sure what kind of traction this motto will get for Greater Napanee..is there a Lesser or Middle Napanee?
"Greater for many reasons"?
Who comes up with this shit!
I'm so glad Ottawa got rid of the "Technically Beautiful" one. Love this quote from a Globe and Mail article:
Quote:
Ottawa has abandoned its new city-marketing slogan "Technically Beautiful" after the tag line bombed with residents and business owners in the capital who felt the awkward phrase sounded like a backhanded compliment.
"It made us an object of ridicule," said city councillor Alex Cullen who spearheaded a campaign against the four-month-old moniker.
"If I called my daughter technically beautiful, she'd hit me."
Greater Napanee and Greater Sudbury are funny. It seems as though "Greater" is more often formally added to smaller urban centres. Informally, we all say, "Greater Montreal" and "Greater Toronto" but that never appears on a Highway sign.
Vaughan used The City above Toronto for 20 years. Certainly the double entendre is among the worst mottos ever in modern times (of course, I'm not unbiased either)
