South End Photos

A thread for any pictures of the South End (anything south of Morris/University). I'll start off with some from today (all taken by me):

Peter Green Hall (left) and its neighbour (right).

5800 South and the VG.

One thing I would suggest is using a program like Photoshop or GIMP to post-process your photos. In practice that is what a lot of people do on the forums to correct colour, crop things in a little closer, straighten the views, etc.

This is what you get from fiddling a bit with the first picture for example:

Thank you i think i'll buy Photoshop. The first couple of pictures were taken at 8am i the morningi so some of them came out really dark.

You can get a cheap version of Photoshop, but the full one is hundreds of dollars.

I suggest looking into GIMP - http://www.gimp.org/

Not quite as good, but free and available for many platforms. There are also basic programs like iPhoto that do automatic correction and allow for a little bit of fine-tuning.

Adobe now offers a free, web-based, basic version of Photoshop called Photoshop Express...fine for basic editing. And cracked versions of Abobe CS3 are quite easy to find, if you have a certain level of moral flexibility.

I have Photoshop Elements 4.0 on my desktop computer, but I really only use it for stitching panos and editing Google Satellite photos. I've been planning to use it more, just don't have the time. If you don't have a lot of extra time, I'd suggest using something free like Gimp or PS Express for now, so you don't end up spending money on something you hardly use.

You can also get Hugin/Autopano for panoramas, although most digital camera come with stitching software (often not quite as good in my experience).

I was surprised to see the no bicycling sign... are no bikes allowed at all in the park?

I think the rules are bikes are only allowed on main paths and only on weekdays (no bikes at all on weekends) due to how crowded the park becomes with joggers and walkers. Might also have to do with how narrow the paths were preceeding Mother Earth's decision to do some "Fall cleaning".
