Interesting the way that colorizing b&w images does make them seem more modern. the only thing in that film clip that I wish were still in existence is the old atlantic richfield bldg on Flower st.

As for most everything else, to be honest, it was not ideal for a big time city. That's why ppl in the past weren't singing about leaving their hearts in LA or crooning, LA, LA, it's a helluva town.

meanwhile, covid-19 is putting a crimp in cities throughout the world, dtla being no exception to the rule. I hope that won't cause too much of a downer when this proj is completed later this yr.

Although Little Tokyo was quieter than usual in late March, construction of the Terasaki Budokan on Los Angeles Street continued. “There were so many points in the course of this project that we faced one difficulty or another that we thought we would have to abort and jettison the project, but now we’re so close to the completion of construction that we can’t let even a global health crisis stop us,” said Little Tokyo Service Center’s Mike Murase, director of the community gymnasium’s fundraising campaign. “Thank you to the construction workers from Walton who continue to work through rain and virus… and to so many people in the community who’ve stuck with us.”

Some fire is going on near downtown at the moment. Little Tokyo I believe. 200+ fire fighters at the scene.

Some really scary footage online. 11 firefighters seriously hurt, and in one of the videos, you can see them trying to escape on a ladder as they are essentially swallowed up by a ball of flame coming out of the building. I hope everyone survives.

Very simple things such as repaving the streets that no one thinks about, but does a whole lot to make a street cleaner, more inviting, and friendlier.

That's a big kahuna, very wide building, and it'll basically be hugging 777 tower (the white stepped one).

A Very big difference for 7th. It was much needed. The good news is that this is a dress rehearsal and the permanent installation will be at the end of next year with concrete, landscaping, etc which will be even better.

Additional good news is that they will be repaving 5th, 6th olive and grand next month. Our streets are currently a disaster but with those 4 being redone, that would mean that Spring, Main, Fig, Olive, Broadway, Grand, 5th, 6th, 7th have all been repaved over the last 3 years or so.

And here I was doubting that a 200+ meter building would get off the ground in LA within the next few years

Yes, for Brookfield. The Mitsubishi Fudosan across Fig hasn't even started digging yet. Just the fence so far.

Bit of an odd request, but does anyone have a recent picture of the skyline from Ascot Hills?

Back when I lived in LA that was my absolute favorite place to view the city, and I'm curious how new development has changed the view.

This is the best and most recent one I have in my library. It looks like he took the picture about a little ways to the right of usual spot kind of killing the sloped skyline, but it still looks pretty good. This links to the artists page: https://rawartists.com/christopherballadarez

^ Hell yeah Bill! What are those thin lines to the left of downtown, radio/cell towers?
