Latitude 53 Gallery has moved to the old Workhall space in the McLeod Building.

Love that move and new space, but will miss patio party opportunities.

Great news, I like that space better for them - more visible presence.

Genuinely curious to see who/what this attracts.

That's an interesting initiative, hopefully it gains lots of traction.

It depends on how much money is available for each endeavour. It is surprising to me that the DBA members are funding this and undertaking the initiative versus the City.

Why? This is completely aligned with the EDBA's mandate and might be inappropriate for a City to do to be honest.

If only there was a Community Revitalization Zone/Levy that was flush with money that could help revitalize downtown....

I suggest you learn more about BIA's and their role in the city. I'll even help you out a little...

^Bingo.

This is the primary role of BIAs and fits well with their mandate ie. draw people, investment and activity to the area.

I hope property tax payers are not expected to fund this - and any money the city throws at this is from "Community Revitalization Zone/Levy that was flush with money that could help revitalize downtown". But I thought there was little left in the kitty of the existing Downtown CRZ. Is there actual money that can be earmarked for this or what is the funding source?

BIAs geographically defined and are funded by a levy added onto the commercial business properties and reinvested in the same area.

I am not a turnip that fell off a truck. I asked "Is there actual CRL money that can be earmarked for this or what is the funding source?" Your response is "funded by a levy added onto the commercial business properties and reinvested in the same area." which means nothing ... if it's not CRL are you suggesting DBA have the power to add or recommend an additional tax levy?

Fire & Flower filles for CCAA protection which probably won't turn out well for Couchd-Tarde or anyone else involved.

Couche Tard owns about 20% of Fire & Flower and has provided significant financing.

They are also providing a $10 million loan as part of the CCAA filing (likely because they have a significant investment in it, it is in their interest to try and have it survive).

There's just too many weed shops. It's going to be a survival of the fittest or deepest pockets till a couple of the big players drop out...
as a casual consumer, most of the shops all carry the same few brands that seem to be about the biggest profits, not what the consumer wants...

Uniqlo opening a store in Southgate. Maybe one day we'll get to celebrate news of one or several of these stores opening downtown. I had high hopes Ice District would bring in some retail.

Couchd-Tarde is a huge multi-national corporation. They have assets all over the the world. Their investment in Fire & Flower is a small drop in the bucket and will have minimum impact on their overall business.

I've invested in both companies, and unfortunately lost quite a bit on Fire & Flower. Partnering with Couchd-Tarde should have been a slam dunk gold mine. I think the 2 should have been. perfect pairing in many ways. Ultimately I think Fire & Flower was too aggressive in its expansion.
