This has come along so much faster than the first building.

Thank you for the pictures kph06.

I think the Waterton Towers are a good example of the negative effect of building wide, low-rise buildings instead of high-rises. This project would have blocked far less light if the two very wide towers were built as four slim 18 storey towers, or alternately, built as two 24 storey towers, each with half the width (and double the height).

The downtown HRM_by_Design by-laws does not allow such wide buildings. The Central Plan has similar provisions for banning wide buildings. Now I think HRM staff planners should start discouraging such wide buildings in the suburbs.

It's a little frustrating right now because HbD has some pretty good development rules but outside of that small area it's business as usual. Developers can still build suburban-style buildings on most of the peninsula for example.

Couldn't agree more about Greater Homes unethical owners. I had GH build me a home some years ago and have firsthand knowledge of their approach to dealing with customers. A contract means nothing to them. They realize the deck is stacked in their favour. The Saberi's attitude seems to be 'if you don't like it sue us.' And as we can see by the case illustrated above the courts can drag that out for years until most people give up and walk away. Another win for Greater Homes! If you would like to see how unethical they can be do a search on Saberi at the N.S. Courts website - http://decisions.courts.ns.ca/ - And these cases are the small minority that actually make to judgement.

I realize there are a lot of questionable builders out there but these guys are in a class of their own.

According to one judgement against them they were found guilty of firing Navid Saberi's long time personal assistant for getting pregnant.

I will certainly never have anything to do with either them or their companies again.

I drove by here today, it looks terrible. I will try to grab some photos tomorrow. They basically eliminated any of the slightly unique details of Waterton I that made that look less like a rectangular box. My girlfriend has a friend in from Ireland and her comment was it looked like it was public housing.

Seems to me they haven't even finished the cladding. I'm thinking we'll see more detail as it gets closer to being finished.

Here are three I got today. The details I have noticed that are missing compared to the first building are:
- the curved roofs on top of some of the penthouse balconies.
- the large "sail" on each side
- the trim on the top will be cast in place as opposed to being built into the precast.
- the balconies are all of uniform size instead of alternating floor to floor.

2 Cranes there now

Picture taken by me today, August 19th, 2012 after it became overcast, so not such a clear picture!

What is the crane on the far left for? Never noticed it before today?

Salut!

Yes, condos. Google the name of the development to read about some of the legal battles over the buildings.
